I have an old AOpen 64MB DDR Geforce3 card, and I'm looking to upgrade to a 128MB card for my new Athlon XP processor. I have about $250.00 to spend, and would just like to know what the hot card on the market is. :)

Rebel 11-12-2002, 04:28 PM How much of a difference will it be from my old card? I found it on Newegg.com for $365.00 with free shipping. I could save up a week or two to make up the difference if it is worth the investment. I could also sell my GeForce 3 card to someone here if they would want it. Nothing wrong with it, just feel like upgrading to 128 from my current 64. bwho 11-12-2002, 04:30 PM the 9000 is no where near the price of the 9700, and 128mb ddr / tv out Phrozen 11-12-2002, 04:42 PM Originally posted by brian-WHT the 9000 is no where near the price of the 9700, and 128mb ddr / tv out It's also no where near teh performance level either. It's actually slower than teh 8500. interactive 11-12-2002, 05:17 PM I'd get a g4-4600 or the radeon 9700 (which you oculd find for around $300 on pricewatch I believe). progex 11-12-2002, 06:03 PM Currently, the hot commodity is the Radeon 9700. http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/radeon9700pro/ But if you can't shell out at that price, go for a GeForce4 ti4200 (or 4400, 4600) Golden Sample. Rebel 11-12-2002, 06:31 PM Will I be able to tell a big difference between my 64mb GF3, and a 128MB GF4? Tazzman 11-12-2002, 06:35 PM I'd maybe lean towards a Geforce card. I have a Radeon 8500 myself and it's a great card, only some games when first released don't seem to rupport ATI hardware. I've had to wait for patches to be released for quite a few games before I could play them with my 8500, which is a shame really. Hopefully this will/has changed as I really like the Radeon cards. Also, seeing as everybody wants a Radeon 9700, you might be able to pick up a second hand geforce 4 at a nicely reduced price. Make sure it's still guarenteed though ;) richy 11-12-2002, 06:53 PM hercules radeon 9700 pro. best there is at the moment. otherwise a 4600 golden sample if you cant afford the 9700 jake712 11-12-2002, 10:07 PM Visiontek/Nvidia Geforce 4 4600 ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Those are currently the best on the market, at your range you'll want to look at a Visiontek/Nvidia Geforce 4 4200/4400. Although, the MX versions work fine, and are extremely underrated. Phrozen 11-12-2002, 10:27 PM Originally posted by jake712 Although, the MX versions work fine, and are extremely underrated. His current Geforce 3 will blow away any Geforce 4 MX card. G4 MX = G2 + a few extras Not to mention you can pick up a G4 MX 400 for about $50.
