Has anyone sold a domain on ebay? How did it go, and how to you ensure you don't get screwed over, wait till they pay you then initiate the transfer? As a buyer how would one ensure they don't get screwed of cash from a shoddy seller?

I think there are some payment gateways which act as middle men. The buyer pays to this gateway and it is secured. The seller receives the payment only when the buyer approves that he has received the Product/Service

Escrow, I didn't use ebay, the buyer contacted me directly and setup Escrow for me to transfer the domain name to them, I got paid and they got the domain, which later on they didn't renew and its still available :)

I normally sell my domains on webmaster and domain forums. Most of my sales don't go above $50 so no point selling on ebay.

I would recommend instead of selling on eBay to try selling on Sedo, Bido, Afternic, domaining affiliated sites or even through social network sites like twitter or maybe networking your own domain for sale site. In "my opinion" selling through eBay you are likely to get less for your domain or even a sale for that matter. Just look on dnjournal.com or namebio.com for recent sales. Every time I see domains on eBay I see some domains that are ridiculously high like 21M and others that are really low at 1.99. Yes, there are people who made a lot of money going this route but I think it might be better sticking with domain affiliated sites in getting both exposure and top dollar for your domain(s). Also another advise is you might want to stick with a site that supports escrow services since there are claims that people have been scammed when using paypal (issuing charge backs).

Sedo and Afternic are great choices. You can also check out snapnames and bido, and forums like dnforum, domainstate, and namepros.

I've purchased a domain from ebay before, and not had any problem.

I used escrow.com with the seller, to guarantee delivery and payment for us both.
