Far as i'm concerned phpBB has yet to shake off its previously atrocious reputation for security.

Not tried vBulletin. I tend to use yaBB, although it can be a pain to install.

Don't go with phpbb! PHPBb forums get spammed like crazy.

Go for vBulletin.

SMF is good if you want free. If you have the money go with vBulletin and you'll never be sorry.

vBulletin if you can afford it. I use phpBB3 on my personal sites, usually. They get lots of bot spam with the default captcha, but mine have been spam free after adding a question/answer type captcha.

Phpbb is spammed easy, and I think has been hacked before. Mybb also I believe has been hacked before.

I personally love Invision Power Board, I think they may have alienated users though when they started charging for it.
