View Full Version : fdcservers.net ????
LionHeart 11-12-2002, 10:56 AM Has anyone here used them.
Are they a reputable company ?
Does their bandwidth suck ass (I.E. are they overloaded ) ?
whats your opinion of them in general.
If you don't like them who do you like that offers reasonable pricing ?
who do you like better he.net or fdc
Tazzman 11-12-2002, 12:10 PM who do you like better he.net or fdcI'm guessing you're new to webhosting ...
Hit the search button and type fdcservers, you're only going to find about 1000 results. Same goes for he.net, make up your own mind, it should be quite easy.

You cannot compare those two providers, they are in different markets.
he.net - provides high quality multihomed bandwidth,
fdc - they just have Ypies, they provide low-cost servers, lately they have had a lot of downtime, couple of days.
I have personal experience with he.net and they are great.

Would you please watch your language!
yagmoth 11-12-2002, 04:09 PM I got a box at FDC, their bandwidth is not bad and such, but their tech support is hellah slow,
So in big, if you have a box there that dont got problem, it's not a bad place, else you will end up pissed at 'em
With their no bandwidth limit, it's a good place to host a mirror site too, but they are not the speedier, i dunno with yipe if that changed a lot, i gotta do speed test
I have a server with fastservers.net and they are amazing. Submit a trouble ticket and you get it back really fast and they fix the problem. Use to be with rackshack boy am i glade i switched. All i can say is they know what they are doing the servers are fast (i just did a reboot was up 30days could have been longer but i do a lot on the server so i just wanted to let it reboot and stuff) thats just the basic server. I have been with them now for about 3months and i have nothing but good things to say.
Thanks
William Wilson
johnallen 11-12-2002, 06:47 PM rackshack is not managed hosting.
never said it was.. But hey if i want to go to rackshack get unmanaged server for $119 or $99 i would rather go wtih fastservers.net that are managed and cost $98 for a basic server. I mean my rackshack server was fine all i was saying is i am happy i switched. I am saving money now to tell you the truth. Since with rackshack i had to pay $60 for cpanel now i only pay $38 with fastservers
Anyways my input is if you go with fastservers you won't look regret it.
johnallen 11-12-2002, 08:31 PM I think you are the first person I've heard say anything good about fdcservers.net. What server did you order from them?
who is saying anything good about fdcservers.net they are ****... i am talking about fastservers.net
phpcoder 11-12-2002, 08:44 PM How is their network now? I hear people complaining but when I have done traces/pings I am getting about 98ms wiht 0% packet loss :)
yagmoth 11-12-2002, 08:54 PM Well, my colo server from there got those stats tonite, it's plugged on a 10/100mpbs links
fetch ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/linux-2.4.15.tar.gz
Receiving linux-2.4.15.tar.gz (29404736 bytes): 100%
29404736 bytes transferred in 35.7 seconds (804.68 kBps)
fetch ftp://ftp.uu.net/uumap.tar.Z
Receiving uumap.tar.Z (8520221 bytes): 100%
8520221 bytes transferred in 8.0 seconds (1.02 MBps)
phpcoder 11-12-2002, 09:00 PM Thanks yagmoth.... I am getting a little over 1.1 MBPS :D
clockwork 11-12-2002, 10:09 PM If you put aside the cogent crisis, put aside the responsiveness of support, things actually look somewhat OK now. I haven't had any troubles since I was put back up...
I've noticed that since the Cogent to Yipes switch, tracerts have been considerably faster for me, don't know about you guys, though...
LionHeart 11-12-2002, 10:31 PM Well I am thinking of going wiht United Colo Any thaughts about them ?
wakkow 11-13-2002, 03:09 AM Do a search on them [Unitedcolo] also.. Seems like it's too early to tell what they're like.. They've had some network issues, but I've heard it's getting better.
skelley1 11-13-2002, 03:40 AM If you want a good managed server with in-house management (true 24 hrs) look at http://rackforce.com UCG doesn't do inhouse full management I believe.
They will absolutely go the extra mile - no matter how big of a customer you are with them.
BTW, unmanaged P4 there is only $99 to start.
johnallen 11-13-2002, 04:12 AM That is a pretty good deal. Even the p4 2.4 is a good deal.
LionHeart 11-13-2002, 10:46 AM Well I am looking for Colocation not managed servers.
so far United Colo has the best deal. I was also thinking about dedicated now. My major concern is someone running away with my server.
Tazzman 11-13-2002, 12:22 PM If you're going to colocate your hardware, if I were you, I'd not use a low end provider such as UnitedColo or FDC. Not saying anything bad about UGC as my experience with them has been and still is good, but if I bought over $1000 worth of hardware, I'd like to know it was in a rack with quality company that could be trusted if anything goes wrong and won't go doing childish stuff like keeping the hardware if the server is cancelled for poor quality service or similar. Price isn't everything.

your right price isn't everything but to me right now its a lot.
this is not a capitol making venture. I am paying for this all out of my pocket each month with no revenue being generated from it.
I am running a Bf1942 clan server. Now whether or not the clan pitches in and helps out I dunno.
