I certainly hope that you guys can give me some input on where I can find a full featured realtime network monitoring program.
I have two leased servers at Rackshack and 8 servers and switch Colocated with NTT/Verio and 1 dedicated server at RackSpace that I need to monitor.
I was using a VisualWare product but I am looking for something elso now because they didn't want to provide an upgrade path for our version the program that we were using that was a couple of versions older.
I need to be able to monitor all our servers from my office terminal running on a SDSL.
Any ideas?

WhatsUp Gold is a great product. You can get it from http://www.ipswitch.com/

If you are looking for something in a Linux format, you might try Nagios. It can be found at sourceforge.net and is very good. We have been using it for several months and can be configured to monitor no only that the host is pingable, but that certain services are responding, server load, memory, disk space, etc.

It was on freshmeat, not sourceforge, if anyone is looking ;)

Of course, that's what I said ;)
Honestly, my search at that time of SF didn't return anything. That's why I went and searched freshmeat.
But they have their own page too... http://www.nagios.org .

I will back you up on the last one. www.nagios.org is the best place to get it. If you do choose to use nagios, be sure to signup for the mailing list. There is some good information exchange going there and the only real place I know of to get support on the product.

Webmin has a builtin system/network monitoring tool if Nagios (which is great) is more than you need or too complicated.

You can also try about SIM from www.r-fx.net. It monitors services as well as restarting them if they go down :)

For your Windows desktop, I recommend Internet Services Monitor (http://www.ccts-ent.com/ism/). Pings and checks all ports, sends email and/or SMS as well as creates and uploads a stats Web page. Highly reliable.
