View Full Version : InterNAP Questions....

Greetings:

My company is currently looking at 100MB/s connection from InterNAP and I am looking for some reviews of people currently using it. Specifically I am wondering about uptime, international speeds, service, and general opinion on the company.

They seem to have a very good network, and we are looking at utilizing them in San Jose, does anyone have servers located in the Equinox Data Center and if so would you be willing to privately share an IP address with me for testing?

My other concern is cost, we are currently negotiating a contract with them and I am wondering if anyone has experience in purchasing 100MB/s or more and what kind of pricing you have negotiated with them. Obviously we want to get the best deal possible.

TIA,

I doubt you will find anyone willing to share the price they are paying due to the signing of a NDA when purchasing from Internap, however I can say we have nothing but good experience with using them. We are colocated in their Philadelphia DC and have 2 100Mbps connections.

When we ordered they promised the connections would be up in 30 days. They delivered in 15 days! They have great network uptime and speeds both continental and overseas. Our clients have had nothing but praise since we switched to Internap and we were at Inflow.

If you contact your sales rep they should be able to give you a test IP and some space at least they did for us.

I would highly recommend them.

I will highly recommend Internap too. Since our move with them last May, we have not yet had a single second of network downtime. We also got 2 x 100 Mbps of ethernet drop directly from their redundant routers in HSRP configuration. Their NOC support is superb! In fact, one night we decided to pull out one of our ethernet drops for a small network maintenance (note, during this, the network is still up since the connectivity falls back to the other ethernet interface) and within minutes somebody from their NOC called us asking whether everything is fine!

You won't go wrong wint Internap! It's like the mercedes when it comes to bandwidth providers! :)

Yeah, it is good quality, but Mercedes doesn't lower its prices for anyone and sell cheap. Thats what makes it a Mercedes. ;)

This is the first intelligent statement about InterNAP that I've seen posted here.

Yes, InterNAP is good. However, they are not cheap and anyone who tells you differently is lying.

There is no way you can run a $99 dedicated server business on InterNAP bandwidth - unless, of course, the $99 goes to pay only for the server and includes no bandwidth. ;)

Mike didn't you sign one with Inflow?? We had to sign one when we were with them as well.

I had the exact same experience. Unplugged one feed while replacing the cable and had a call within 2 minutes from the NOC. Quite the pleasant surprise.

InterNAP bandwidth is a joy in itself, but combine it with actually being in a facility they own, and it's an unbeatable combination.

I am inside Internap's own datacenter, so I am just wonderring, what differences there are, if there is any, for getting internap bandwidth directly on their datacenter or through on of their POP in equinix, level3, etc ?

NDAs are put in place to give the buyer this feeling of "Hey, I got such a great deal, they don't want me to tell anyone. I'm the man!".

I laugh at them. In almost every case we have signed one and I have run into others using the same company and we discuss pricing, it is usually the same deal or pretty close.

Yes, InterNAP is good. However, they are not cheap and anyone who tells you differently is lying.

I wish our current datacenter used them. The old CCC building in SD used them and they were great. They do however deal more now days then lets say Sprint or AT&T. But then again, that depends on your market.

Play hard-ball, they will come down off $300, $250, and lower per Mb/s on small commitments, trust me.

The only one I have not seen drop their shorts on pricing is Sprint, and actually seen them walk on LARGE commitments if they didn't get their price. (large as in 400-500 Mbs).

As someone else mentioned, NDA's are the carriers way of making sure (hoping) their customers don't share prices with each other.

I know *many* carriers selling BW cheaper on smaller commitments (say under 25Mbs), then some of their larger customers are paying for GigE pipes. Shame on the larger guys for not being smart enough to drive for a better deal/price.

It is a buyers market, if you know how to play the sales game and negotiate, BW can be had for cheap, assuming your in a DC where you can get cross-connects and not need local loops.

Tom

PS - When they ask you to sign the NDA, say no problem, just sign our contract stating that I get favored nations type pricing, and if you sell it lower at any time during my contract, you have to lower my price too.

Did I mention it is a *buyers* market? ;-)
