It does happen, folks:

4:36pm up 224 days, 10:51, 1 user, load average: 1.12, 1.16, 1.11

It's a RackShack Potluck 1 gHz machine from back in the day, not a problem in its life. As you can see by the load average, the site has outgrown it, but it was great while it lasted.

Nice indeed!
Just one site is running on it?
Mind sharing the URL?

I wouldn't necessarily conclude that. A load of around 1.00 isn't really that bad, unless it skyrockets too frequently.

My congrats, anyway :)

Sweet :)

Agreed, 1.00 load isn't that bad, however if you see it spiking alot now you might want to look into a new server (just incase this one starts to crash or lag).

Why would you want the URL? The only reason I can think of is to attempt to root the box which is running an old kernel...

Crmi... Do not post your URL unless your positive your kernel has no exploits.

woogs,

how exactly would one go about 'rooting' a kernel remotely?

i would be much more worried about openssh, openssl, apache, ftpd etc. though i highly doubt there is a chance he would survive on the rs network for long if he wasnt all patched.

Rooting remotely is absolutely possible and that's precisely what hackers too ;)

silversurfer,

woogs stated that someone could hack 'an old kernel' remotely. now to the best of my recollection there have been no remote *kernel* holes, especially since the rutgers people rewrote the tcpip stack.

do you even know what you're talking about?

rusko, you are right about your emphasis... no kernel holes. But whether the box is secured is another question. I am sure it is, but just saying that it's possible to root a box remotely. How is another issue altogether (running some extra, unnecessary services with holes etc.)
