(It totally depends on what your doing, please expand more). Jtru 11-11-2002, 09:38 PM My vote goes for Linux for stability reasons. beachtrader 11-11-2002, 10:49 PM Windows servers have a lot of security holes. But then there is a book out on how to hack a Linux server. You are going to get a lot of posts, but the issue is what do you want to use the server for? If you want true ASP and Windows SQL databases go Windows. If you want to save thousands of dollars by going open source go Linux, BSD, etc. Each has pros and cons. Something to consider: According to a recent poll 8/02 63% of all websites run Apache Server. prime 11-11-2002, 11:06 PM Originally posted by beachtrader Something to consider: According to a recent poll 8/02 63% of all websites run Apache Server. And this is relevant to the issue because...? The Apache HTTP server is avaliable for both linux and windows. beachtrader 11-12-2002, 07:41 AM Its not, just something to consider... sasha 11-12-2002, 09:14 AM I'd say linux and rather then going in technical discussion I'll state more personal reasons. Microsoft is found guilty of unlawful monopoly practices. That means that at one point they said "**** sasha. We will limit his choices and force him to give us his money." If at all possible I would not support them in any way. clockwork 11-12-2002, 11:15 AM Depends entirely on your system and/or security administrator(s). However, I would lean more to the Linux side because it is open source, which means you can patch security problems if you have the know-how, and generally speaking... the linux community release security patches far faster than microsoft does.
