I'm going to start a new project which i dont really wish to talk about yet incase someone steals my idea, but i'm looking for some sort of script/system i can use for emails like Hive P3. Whats the best email system to use to create new accounts etc... the system must have a feature for multiple domains too.

Any help would be great and id give you exclusive first looks on what project when its all finished or in beta stages.

If you are using Windows check out Smartermail 5.x (they have a free single domain version too).

And there is Zimbra, which is a popular choice for Linux and Mac OS X email servers with SaaS support. It has the latest in open source email and calendar collaboration software.

Would agree on SmarterMail recommendation. It has been by far the best mail server I've worked with. Also, you will also be able to get SmarterBundle included with your VPS/Dedicated server purchase with some of the SmarterTools partners.

I'm looking for a Linux email system/script, the script/system just allow multiple domains and so i can limit how many emaisl can be sent per email address and not domain. The script must also be able to handle around half a million email address.

It is designed to be used by Internet service providers (ISPs), Zimbra has demonstrated that it can handle 50,000 active users and 100,000s of provisioned users per dual CPU server.
Zimbra install is easy once you have your MX record and DNS setup and working properly.

I have to agree. There is a lot of anti-MS sentiment out there, but Exchange is a very solid product.

Really very nice.Best is a realtive term : imap mail servers, e mail system, gmail and yahoo.There is also a question about what you mean by e-mail. but Your thinking is quite good and even Program.

I would say Smartermail for Windows and Qmail for Linux.

Thanks for mentioning Zimbra. This is timely since I'm looking for e-mail app like this.

HAHA, I was thinking Mark was a little behind the times till I saw this post was resurrected from a year ago.

Its all depends upon which platform you work for Windows. There are following options are available:

1) mail enable standard
2) hmailserver with squirrelmail or Afterlogic
3) Smartermail Single domain free addition

For Linux there are plenty of option available in Open Source space like Sendmail, Exim, etc.

We've actually dropped SM now in favor of Google Apps. I would recommend checking out GA as the best mail service on the net!

I agree - we've been providing Exchange services for years and if properly configured it is one of the strongest and most reliable email (groupware) systems out there. After all, there is a reason that they are the defact standard in the business world!
