Searched for domain registrars and found that netfirms.com has the lowest price (correct me if im wrong). Do you have any experiences with this registrar? Do they increase their price when renewing?

you can find the cheap domains from namecheap.com its very cheap and good in service they also offer free privacy protection for your domain.
if you want to buy domain from trust able website then i would like to suggest you to go for godaddy.com

Name.com has domains for 8.99, yes this is more than go daddy but it includes WHOIS masking, forwarding, email, etc. If you are going to purchase masking anyways this is your buy. They also have a domain happy hour each day that makes it even cheaper, for $5.49 at 3PM MST(at that time it is the cheapest place you can get a domain). I started using them this year and moved all of my domains from godaddy from them. Pretty happy with them so far.

Does name.com offer free DNS hosting? Or do I have to pay for that separately?

As with most registrars, it's included.

+1 for Godaddy, sometimes they have insane domain prices to lure you in. :) If you are careful and only buy domains, then you get a steal of a deal from them.

Yeah you can register a domain at the best price out there and 60 days later take it to where ever will give you the best service and all the time goes with you. I am actually surprised more people do not take advantage of this.

And yes name.com does offer free DNS service, free WHOIS masking and even a google site can automaticly be associated with your site on setup if you turn that feature on. As I have said very happy with this registrar for being a low price registrar. It is a pain having to deal with godaddy support but was worth it to get away. Just do not expect them to ACK any domains for you to get them to transfer faster.

I've always liked Name.com and NameCheap.com - Both offer free private WHOIS, and NameCheap offer a free COMODO SSL.

namecheap providing currently domain name at $ 9.69 which I dont think is a cheap deal... Infact you can get domains at same prices from many MyOrderBOX type websites who are Domain Resellers !! Plus you will get several free benifits like FREE DNS Management, FREE ID Protection etc.,

The cheapest price for the registration of general TLD' would be around $8/year - $9/year, unless you are using any kind of bulk domain registration package. It is important what do you need to do? If you just want to get cheap domain, then you can take advantage of the promotional offerings run by different hosting providers. If you need to have a domain account with ICANN accredited registrar, then you should expect to pay at least $8/year.

I've contacted namecheap and they said the free private WHOIS is only for the first year.

I've just sent name.com an email asking the same thing.

Comodo is a good company, not a bad extra at all. I take it they do not supply you with your own unique IP though?

As I said earlier there is a happy hour each day where domains at 5 somthing each. Not sure what the restrictions are but if it is a unique name that you can wait a few hours to register it is good deal. At that price the registar actualy loses money as verisign charges registars $6.86 to register, renew or transfer .com domains(as of October 1, 2008).

Yahoo also still offers $1,99 per domain per year.

Yahoo is not a registrar for one, it is a partner of Melbourne IT. While this offer maybe attactive it will probably only be good for one domain and the renewal price of the domain will be much higher than 1.99. If you only want to get one domain and then transfer it out after 60 days to another registrar this is an option.
