I am getting ready to change hosts. I basically want to get rid off RaQs and start using real Linux boxes. I already have pretty much narrowed my search for a new host.
My question is:
Do you think it'll be a lot of work moving about 200 websites? Does anyone here have experience moving customers from one host to another? I am a little concerned about the move. I just don't want to have complications that might scare a few customers away.
Any suggestions?

I would do this:
1. Find a new dedicated server in your price range that you like.
2. Purchase it, and set it all up with your clients file info etc.
3. Forward your DNS off the cobalt to the new ip addresses on the new box, and keep that cobalt for about another month while you are notifying your clients of the DNS change.
4. After everyone is on the new name servers you can get rid of your cobalt.
Have fun!

If you need help with the move, we can help you.
We just got done moving 120 clients for someone.
The problem is that I am not using the DNS feature of the Cobalt. I use the DNS that is provided by my host. They provide some kind of interface to create the DNS records, but the thing is that they already told me that they will not allow me to use the DNS to point to an IP address that does not belong to their network.
What would you do then?
I was thing that I could create all the DNS records for my customers on the new server and point them to the Cobalt. Once the records propagate I go ahead and move the customers to the new server and then change the DNS records on the new server to reflect the new IPs.
Is this right?
This thing is already getting on top of my head. Do you know if they are going to experience down time?

There should be no downtime.
Are client didnt expierence any.
You need to get everything setup prior to the move.
Then there wont be any downtime.
If you need any help you can PM here and I can help you.

When I change the IP addresses of my DNS servers don't I need to change them on each one of my client's domain records?
Does it work that way or the reverse lookup would point those domains to the new IPs. That confuses me a lot!

What I would do is Have everything setup before you move anything.
In regards to the DNS information, you will have to update that for the domains.
Thats a internic thing.
