View Full Version : Stay Away From AdvantageCom Networks

hello
03-08-2000, 01:14 AM
I recently had my website hosted with AdvantageCom Networks(schmolie.com). The service had been alright for about a year. Some problems with SQL and downtime.

A couple days ago I was told my site had been permantly disabled. I called the tech support guy(John) and he said that yes it had been permantly disabled because it crashed the server. I asked why and what did? He said a page named http://www.mysite/page.html had received too many hits. I know for a fact that the page did not recieve for than 200 hits a day. Also the page was static HTML.

When I email them they are rude and tell me to get lost. I prepaid for year, luckily my lease would have been up in 3 months so I am not out too much money.

Please let this serve as a warning. Stay away from AdvantageCom Networks(schmolie.com)

Yea I used them for a while, they really sucked I got out of there quick. Jumpline.com seems to be the best out of what I have seen.

Network Status

If there are any known problems with our network or servers we will post them on this page.

Last Updated: 03/12/01 05:39 PM GMT

Network Status and Server Status:

As of 7:55AM Pacific time on 3/12/01 a power outage occurred. The power was restored at 9:25AM Pacific time on 3/12/01. The power company has told us that a squirrel was responsible for a large explosion that disabled half of the power station that distributes power to various substations around the city. The servers should be completed booting by 10:00AM Pacific time. We've completed our system checks and all appears to be running normally again as of 10:25AM Pacific time.

Currently (03/02/01), all four Savvis lines are down. The Sprint line has remained up and is handling the traffic, though at reduced capacity. You may notice slightly higher latency (ping time) to your web site. Due to the recent service level problems we've had with Savvis, we've cancelled the lines and are in the process of bringing in additional capacity from Sprint.

As of 03/07/01, we have brought online an additional backup line from a local broadband provider. This has alleviated much of the throughput problem. We'll be monitoring it closely to determine if we need to take additional measures.

We also have three additional Sprint lines on order. Sprint has given us a tentative installation date of 03/19/01. When the three new Sprint lines are installed, everything should be back to normal and there will be no noticeable slowdown with much less latency than what the Savvis lines provided.

IMO, a company that is rude to its customers will not last long.

Sounds like you've had a rough experience with them. You pre-paid for a year? Are they refunding you the balance owed? Or, is that why they are telling you to get lost? I've been reading some bad reviews about hosting companies taking the consumers money and offering ziltch for service, and I'm getting so sick of it. (sorry, I'm venting now... I'll save that for another forum) :)

Hope your situtation improves.

This thread is over a year old. You seriously expect to get responses from users who NEVER registered?

Heh... should have read the date stamp on the original message. That being said, nope. Don't expect a response from a user who NEVER registered.
