UmBillyCord 11-10-2002, 04:37 PM How are these gimmics? Who offers Miva Merchant with every account? achost_ca 11-10-2002, 04:37 PM Free domain or free month of hosting seem to work. I offer a free domain if you pay yearly, and its amazing how many clients decide to pay yearly cause of it instead of monthly. As well it works out to a free month just about anyways, due to quite a few clients of mine already owning their domains and asking what they get out of paying yearly. :) Martie 11-10-2002, 04:43 PM LOL....I dont consider those choices gimmics either. CCF Hosting 11-10-2002, 04:48 PM Well, For us we consider it, because not all hosting companies provide those. But, we have alrady decided on the free domain. With all of our packages, from 5 bucks up to 80. And no time comitment. Also, does anyone suggest a backup server idea? Like we have a shared reseller account, and we want to backup all data NEW ONLY to a server in a different datacenter. Any suggestions? We won't have more then 10GB of data and we need to backup every 2 days. Thanks! akashik 11-10-2002, 05:24 PM I'd suggest rsync but I'm not too sure how you'd go about that without root access. Might be worth looking into though Greg Moore CCF Hosting 11-10-2002, 05:28 PM I have root access, but will rsynce only backup dirs that I want? TY allera 11-10-2002, 05:41 PM Originally posted by Mind-Field I have root access, but will rsynce only backup dirs that I want? rsync will do pretty much anything you want it to do. Install rsync and type 'man rsync'. You'll get a huge list of options that let you do... pretty much anything you want to do. :) There's been rsync discussions here before, but I'm not sure if any code has been discussed (for backup scripts). Run some searches and see what you can dig up. I know rsync's home page has some sample scripts you can play with. Web Hosting Stuff 11-11-2002, 02:08 AM I think a good plan with plenty of space and bandwidth and php/mysql etc. + <$10 per month is a good sales 'pull' factor. That's what I believe most buyers look at primarily. CDHost 11-11-2002, 02:28 PM If you've got a good agreement with a domain registrar (and don't offer $2/month plans) you can do well offering free domain registration, since you can often register domains for as little as $8/year as a reseller... CCF Hosting 11-11-2002, 03:02 PM Well, I can get domains at $8.00/yr. and our lowest plan is $5.00. So, that means if they leave in 1 months, I loose $3.00, but I doubt that will happen. CDHost 11-11-2002, 03:33 PM I would do something like "Pay yearly and get free domain registration!" That way no matter what you've covered your bases... WildCard 11-11-2002, 05:05 PM Well, the key is, if you are good they won't generally leave. :) Or you could keep the name in your name for the first 6 months or year or whatever. -WC- CCF Hosting 11-11-2002, 08:43 PM Yeah.. I like that's best to do, but... They can't tranfer until 60 days of reg. is up, and then they have to pay a renawal fee at their new registar. So they are paying twice. Thanks! To stubborn or stupid to read the rules. Not much more I can say. At least you figured out how to make a sig so you were not posting and hotlinking your URL. I pointed out the rules in two threads you spammed in. Yet you would still would rather argue. SiteHoster 11-13-2002, 12:10 AM Please get me some rates for advertising UmBillyCord 11-13-2002, 12:12 AM There is a link at the bottom for ads. The address is whtads@ev1.net. If you want to post your ads about your company and what you offer, there are advertising forums below that are free. achost_ca 11-13-2002, 02:10 AM i personally doubt you would make any money unless your packages were $25/month or higher.... at least. I may be incorrect there though. achost_ca 11-13-2002, 02:16 AM hmm, maybe next time i should notice the 'next page' link before posting. lol. Once word is out about it, you will have people doing exactly as you doubt will happen. You will see though, no need to take my word on it. (No, I won't be taking advantage of that offer myself, so no worries there... though it is tempting! :D ;) ) Southernman 11-13-2002, 04:32 AM Originally posted by SiteHoster Miva Merchant on every account only $9.95/mo Free Domain Name Free Month Free Merchant Account Free Authorize.net Account Miva on every account reseller programs If I offered a deal like this is would sell like hotcakes then right? Brian http://www.Hivelocity.net Not only should you read the rules, until you understand them... maybe you should start your own thread, too. bwho 11-13-2002, 04:33 AM could offer a free domain with every 3/6/12 month plan set yourself as the administrative contact for the first month, and then change it to thier information once the contract term is near up.. okihost 11-13-2002, 06:54 AM I have noticed that all the "gimmicks" that we have tried ie: 2 months free with yearly, one or two years free domain registration don't really increase sales at all.. I mean its something nice to add to your index page but dont expect many extra sales from it.. CCF Hosting 11-13-2002, 11:32 AM OKIHost, Your right, but that is why we are offering first month and get a domain. And I am not worried about them ditching us for the domain 1) We will win them over with our customer service. 2) They will have to pay their registar for another year when transfering. And maybe we can make it as long as the domain is with us (and they got it when signing up for a hosting account) then if they stop hosting, they have to take the domain with in 2 months or be charged for the domain.:D Thanks! |
