Sunday will be the first hang-over day I'm afraid, but at night there should be some drinks possible again - why not take some of the hotel bars? We are staying in the The Westin National Harbor

Frank_CCI 07-30-2009, 04:21 PM I think you have three main choices - (A) The National Harbor complex that the Gaylord is in has couple of restaurants (http://www.nationalharbor.com/); (B) Take the hourly shuttle bus (or a car if you have one) into downtown DC or (C) take the boat across the river into Old Town Alexandria (http://visitalexandriava.com/). B should take 25-30min and C should take 20 min (approx.)
If you are driving, be careful about drinking as the DC cops are tough.
Alexandria is the historic old port city just across the river and has a lot of bars and restaurants within walking distance of the dock. DC obviously has tons of options.
Try zagat.com or opentable.com for specifics.

Now, let's get down to business. Old harbor, boat trip, etc, sounds all great but slightly more complex to organize with a crowd, same for going downtown DC.
I checked the Gaylord convention center website and found a good option to start the night off with a quick bite and a get-together:

What do you think, meet up there around 18.00 (6 pm), go for a snack, possibly a few beers.. from there we can see how the night develops??

Well i am not a dutch , but i am in netherlands and leaving on 9th for US, So may be i think we both have same flight and ofcourse we have a same destination to reach :)

Actually one of the guys here is calling around to the bars to make sure they are going to be open, and I am going to be doing some recon that Saturday night to figure out which ones are worth skipping.
Looks like Phoenix NAP will have a few more people there that night.

Having eaten at both - Rosa's cant be recommended enough - good food, good music, great sangria and guacamole to die from
McCormick is terrible for a "fresh fish" place, the catfish was quite clearly frozen, the salads lacking in any actual seafood, the drinks tasted like plastic, and the staff too busy or too bored to take notice of you - avoid.
Been looking into things for Sunday - probably catching a cruise - may be around for the pub crawl - will drop mobile #'s to a few of you alchies so we can find out where you are ...

We have 4 bars planned - then we can decide which one to hang out at for the rest of the night, the managers are expecting us and some places we have a private section - and one bar even has us with a private bar.
So we are meeting at the Gaylord National Pastime Bar, you will probably see us, but if we are in a back room, ask someone for the PhoenixNAP group.
At 7PM we are going to close out our tabs and head over to our first bar. Everything is within walking (stumbling distance).

The $100 is good at Hivelocity, not at the hotel. You will see the coupon code on the back. I hope you didnt ring up a big tab at the bar and try to give them your key card for payment.

Just those staying at the Gaylord. Last year there were 2 hotels sponsored by HostingCon in Chicago and both had our key cards. Apparently this year it is only the one sponsored hotel the Gaylord that has them.
