So, color > colour. ;) Kaumil 11-09-2002, 08:46 PM Okay sure, the English started spelling it "Colour", Canada also uses "Colour" ;) AceWeb 11-09-2002, 09:22 PM Here is what WHT for their codes: {COLOR=crimson} {/COLOR]} So COLOR it is then ;) richy 11-09-2002, 10:13 PM coloUr . we invented the damn language (for invented read stole extensively from other lanaguages). you just forgot half the letters. Tallon 11-09-2002, 10:31 PM We were always taught in school to use colour, if you had spelled it color it would have been marked wrong. Same as cheque and check, etc. progex 11-09-2002, 10:48 PM We were always taught in school to use colour, if you had spelled it color it would have been marked wrong. Now everyone seems to be using 'color' Color is the only american spelled word i use (colour=blah) but I do use cheque, highway, etc :) Phrozen 11-10-2002, 01:00 AM Originally posted by Mester highwayHow else can you spell highway? Jtru 11-11-2002, 01:57 AM "Color" here, too. ChickenSteak 11-11-2002, 02:18 AM Color here, although I think cheque sounds better then check. homeiss 11-11-2002, 02:25 AM I'm Canadian and I spell it colour. Reptilian Feline 11-11-2002, 07:03 AM Is cheque and check the same thing? I thought cheque was the money-thing and check was "find out if something is working" kind of word? I use colour, but that's because I had to learn british english in school. No "american slang bad spelling awful pronounciation" in my days :) homeiss 11-11-2002, 01:57 PM Yah, I cheque can be spelt either way but again I spell it cheque. I think it's the U.S. that spells it check. ;) JustinH 11-12-2002, 06:01 AM American's developed the "easy" english. The words that actually sound the same that they look... Colour sounds more like an alcholic beverage... a cheque? Put that in front of a 3rd grader and they's say "Checkwe". :D susannad 11-12-2002, 06:08 AM colour me curious as to why this thread has been resurrected  JustinH 11-12-2002, 06:09 AM Oh I completely forgot about regional dialects: Whatd ya do that fer? (Idaho) This's MinaSoooda, doncha nooo? (MinaSoooda) I'm going to scal. (Boston - And scal is actually school) I'm not going to even attempt to try New Yorker or Southern dialects. :D Darth 11-12-2002, 06:23 AM Yea.. umm... help. :D Selpaw 11-12-2002, 06:31 AM Colour...... TheDoctor 11-12-2002, 09:58 AM If the USA wants to take the ENGLISH language and reproduce there version of it, well good luck to them, even if they are misspelling words. It's unfortunate they don't own there own language. Colour JustinH 11-12-2002, 11:49 PM  Umm... if you want to get technical, the first use of English (Anglo-Saxon or Old English) was intitially used by Germanic tribes, and therefore, is a dialect of Germanic. No modern-day langage was magically "developed" by one country or another, so to say English belongs to any one country is a falacy. MUSTANGPC 11-13-2002, 10:40 AM COLOUR IS SPELT AS COLOUR - The Commonwealth Way. Angel78 11-13-2002, 10:47 AM anyone has that link where you can search two words and find out which one has/gives more hits @ google? JustinH 11-13-2002, 04:27 PM  Just do it manually. You forget that color is used in html. I know many pages that show up when you search because in the code the same word is used. JustinH 11-14-2002, 04:50 AM Ummm... last I checked Google (and every other "big" search engine) completely ignores HTML, in both indexing and in relevent listings. Sure, there were probably a few bugs in the system that caught the Google bot, but I somehow doubt that 26,000,000 sites got through. |
