You can also do stuff like {secondaltcolor} because IIRC this is a bug up to 2.2.6 which Chicken still hasn't upgraded to

For instance one of the hidden forum names is "Thrown Threads". But I got that from a bug in 2.2.8 so upgrade to 2.2.9 when it comes out :p

(No, Chicken, I can't view the actual contents, just the name)

that's one of the reasons I post in blue and not the traditional black.

Why does black have to be default?

Chicken isn't responsible for upgrades. Patrick (WebDev?) is...you'll have to PM him. I think BC might be able to do it also, but he's rarely around

Ha, I think the different colours once in a while make it easy to read, blue and red both. I read in a post where someone was "angry" and they posted in "RED". It fitted well. I like black though, and this font :)

I just thought of something....using hex codes produces 65M colors right? or is it 65K? i can't remember...but my point: every member can have their own color :D

What if someone likes blue and you already have blue? What if there are some colours that dont' show well on gray? Then what are we going to do? Highlight over with our mouse all the time and try to send secret messages? :D

As YELLOW isn't even an option to post with, then it's use should be banned. :pimp:

I don't mind a little color scattered throughout a post. But, I find that posts that are entirely of some color extremely distracting. As a matter of fact, I don't read them. They hurt my eyes. And, that's really the crux of it for me. If they didn't hurt my eyes, they wouldn't be such a distraction.

I noticed it when someone quoted you in a thread and I realized I hadn't read your comment and went back to look at it.

But really if that wasn't happening I might skip them anyway, because I do find it a little irritating.

Might I ask why you are irritated by BLUE?

Would it help if I made it a dark dark blue?

This would be an example of the dark blue sentence

SoftWareRevue

The dark blue would be less jarring, so probably less irritating.

I agree and have been doing the same.

There may not be a rule against using color but that doesn't make it any less annoying. It's similar to someone typing in caps and can be construed as rude. It just seems like you are trying to draw more attention to your posts but it's having the opposite effect.

As said before the attention was a side effect, I just wanted to see a reaction...it lasted 9 days, and there still isn't a rule about it.

I actually got the idea from SWR's porn thread. There's no rule about that, so what's to stop me from posting some soft porn (not that I would)....

anywho...I'll stick with dark blue until i get tired of it....i've already forgotten about the regular blue on a couple of my posts and im just getting waay too lazy to go back and edit them everytime i forget....

Do you need rules to decide what is acceptable? Sometimes common courtesy and sense should prevail.

no but I don't see why posting in a subtle color is unacceptable did someone just decide that the standard color should be black?
yes it can be annoying sometimes and depending on the color all the time....but why does it annoy you?

yes, it's been said that its one color apart of all different colors, but that's because no one else has thought of posting in different colors.....

edit: i just realized my last four posts have all been in black...

I give up :bawling:

I'm really not sure why it's annoying but isn't it annoying when someone types in caps? Why is that annoying?

I don't believe you are intentionally trying to be annoying but the color is annoying for some reason.

SoftWareRevue

I think it goes back to what JayC said about it.
It's just bothersome to have something stick out like that.
You wouldn't do it on your website like that (alternating paragraphs of black and blue). And, the reason you wouldn't is, because it would be difficult to read and follow.

Why is that annoying?Yep, and in fact if someone were to post in all caps, I'd be less likely to read that post. For that matter, if someone started every sentence without a cap, or did any other stylistic thing that's out of the ordinary I'd be less likely to bother to read the whole post. I even usually skip the ones from people who use "u" for "you" and "ur" for "your" and stuff like that. Usually they're just not worth the trouble of reading them.

But of course none of it's against the rules. You can do it; I don't have to read it.

And if anyone's posts get too irritating to me, I just drop them into that handy "ignore" list in the User Control Panel. But akash isn't there yet. ;)

Akash

Damn....if I'd only waited another day or two....:D

I think what makes it annoying is the fact that it's unique, but if everyone posted in the same/similar manner it wouldn't be so annoying.

I think the same goes for the webpage argument. If you vary the colors consistently, I don't think it looks too bad, but if you've got a hot pink in the middle of a bunch of blue/black text, that's what throws it off.
