View Full Version : help..
Anita 11-09-2002, 07:10 AM hey guys,
I have a account with hostonce (unfortunatly) and i asked them if i could keep my domain name but switch hosts and how much will it be and they said:
"you do not need to pay to keep your domain -- it is included in your web hosting package.
If you ask for a refund of your unused hosting we will withhold $16 to cover the domain registration plus a small admin fee.
We currently charge $16 for the renewal of your domain to ensure that it does not expire.
Please send your new DNS settings to our aptly named DNS changes dept within this help desk and we will update your domain to reflect the new host. "
so if i change hosts will i still have to pay for domain through hostonce?
(Sorry, i dont know much about hosting.. ;))
faculty 11-09-2002, 07:14 AM By the sounds of it, yes.
Ask if they can put it in your name so you can transfer it away :)
net-trend 11-09-2002, 07:15 AM Doesn't look like you need to pay anything as of yet as you will be given a credit.
Anita 11-09-2002, 07:22 AM Ok, thanks! So i will have to pay hostonce every eyar unless i register it in my name?
I'm just worring that they may keep charging me hidden fees or something....
thanks for the help. :)

To be on the safe side, 2 months before your domain expires or actually you can do it now.
1) Make sure you have FULL ownership of the domain
2) Transfer the domain to a proper registrar like enom.com or opensrs.com, etc.
3) Pay cheaper fees and no more worries! :)
Anita 11-14-2002, 03:25 AM Okie, thanks! One more thing....
I've just changed the DNS info for my domain so it's normal for the site to be down for a couple of days right? Cause it says "connection refused" when you go to it.
net-trend 11-14-2002, 03:36 AM Yeah, expect to wait for 24-48 hours before your site dns get's propagated fully.
If longer than 48 hrs, consult your domain name provider.
Anita 11-14-2002, 03:41 AM okie, thanks! :D
UH-Matt 11-14-2002, 06:08 AM Hi Anita, i believe you switched your hosting to us - feel free to drop a note on our forums or email our support if you are still in need of any help with the moving of your DNS, I can also help you move your domain to a neutral registrar (such as enom) once its closer to expiring this will remove any possibility of hidden fee's from old hosts.
coight 11-14-2002, 06:23 AM We have helped a number of our clients (thanks hostonce for the extra 10 each month ;) ) move their domains from their system. I have been in contact with the owner on various occasions. If you need assistance, let me know :D
Anita 11-14-2002, 11:13 AM Will do, Matt. :D
So will i have to wait untill it's expired to move it elsewhere?
They've changed the DNS info now, they said it'll take around 4 days.
UH-Matt 11-14-2002, 11:37 AM you can move it as soon as you want, providing your old host arent being difficult about it.
By the sound of:
"If you ask for a refund of your unused hosting we will withhold $16 to cover the domain registration plus a small admin fee.

They might try to charge you for the domain before you move it.
Would you like me to contact them on your behalf and see what the deal is on getting it moved for you?
(you can just leave it with them and it will still work fine with your account - renewals will be made via them)
Anita 11-14-2002, 11:42 AM Yes please, that'll be wonderful if you could contact them! I did ask them if i can have it registered in my name but they just ignored that part of the question.
( I'd rather move it far, far away from hostonce. ;) )
UH-Matt 11-14-2002, 11:57 AM ok, ill try and get hold of them for you.
it sounds to me like they will want money for you to take the domain from them :( I will see what i can do.
Anita 11-14-2002, 12:03 PM ok, thanks for the help! :)
I don't mind about the refund of $16, they can keep that towards the fee for moving the domain away from them or whatever.
