View Full Version : Billing Software
Alex - Fibervolt 07-13-2009, 11:19 PM Hello,
What would be the best billing software for a small hosting business? Whats the advantages from Open Source vs Non open source?
Thanks Alot,
Depeche
Jacob Wall 07-13-2009, 11:23 PM I suggest WHMCS or Ubersmith. Honestly, Ubersmith is 2x as much as WHMCS but imo has more features and if you ever got large DE is great.
Kusai 07-14-2009, 02:55 AM Yeah if u r just starting out, u can go with lowest budget with WHMCS and later on upgrade to Ubersmith.
"but imo has more features and if you ever got large DE is great."
what is IMO ??
Shoel 07-14-2009, 05:25 AM what is IMO ??
It's an acronym for In My Opinion, and there's also a variant using an H (IMHO) for humble or honest.
CH-Shaun 07-14-2009, 06:43 AM WHMCS is a great rich featured billing system. Many hosts are using it these days.
bikster 07-14-2009, 06:47 AM I would recommend WHMCS because of its simplicity, rich features, value and VERY easy integration.
We've tried ClientExec but since switching to WHMCS, we never looked back.
Its available from LicensePal for a price of $12.95/mo, cheaper than the usual $15.95/mo. You get a free eNom domain reseller or a free ResellerClub domain reseller if you buy WHMCS too...
inspiron 07-14-2009, 07:14 AM I think WHMCS would be the Best Software to start.
GarrettReardon 07-14-2009, 07:48 AM I use ClientEXEC, but at first used WHMCS. I like WHMCS billing wise, but I didn't like the Helpdesk.
I love Kayako, and the only reason I use ClientEXEC is because I like it integrated with Kayako Support Suite.
Give WHMCS a try, you won't regret it.
XeHSean 07-14-2009, 09:39 AM I would recommend WHMCS to you - it is great software especially designed for webhosts
Alex - Fibervolt 07-14-2009, 11:52 AM Thanks a lot for all the responses. I am trying to gather all the software I need and all the prices.
What other software would I need besides Live Support, Control Panel and Billing Software?

The easiest way to figure it all out is to just add things when you have a genuine need for them (wiki, forums, etc).
Too many people get caught up in trying to maintain appearances by "checking all the boxes" for starting a hosting company. If you don't need those resources then the odds are against you maintaining them. It's worse to have an empty (or outdated) forum or knowledgebase than to not offer them until there's a lot of demand for them. ;)

I agree with that, but I think it's best to have the knowledgebase straight away.
HostcrateCEO 07-14-2009, 09:04 PM 9 out of 10 people suggest WHMCS, im one of the 9 people who suggest WHMCS as well cause of the customizing and easy admin area.
PogiWeb 07-15-2009, 04:06 PM I have been really happy with WHMCS for my business. I have played around with Clientexec and WHMCS with 95% of my clients loving WHMCS.

You may want to check iHost, too. I'm quite satisfied with it, nice billing features, some ticketing and kb, too. Best of all, it's cheap in owned license.
zendzipr 07-17-2009, 09:28 AM If you plan on accepting credit cards, WHMCS may not be the best avenue to peruse. Currently out of all the billing software mentioned, WHMCS, Ubersmith and ClientExec, none have been able to confirm PA-DSS compliance or a real plan to achieve compliance. The only billing software I have been able to confirm has a true plan for compliance is Plesk Billing.

Given this information, I would suggest WHMCS or ClientExec.
