View Full Version : I Phone for a hosting business?
zomex 07-10-2009, 12:25 PM Hello everyone,
Im thinking about getting a I Phone 3GS and im wondering if I will be able to do a few things with it such as:
- Answer emails
- Answer support tickets in WHMCS
Also for anyone who has a I Phone and a hosting business is it really usefull?
Thanks
Jack
IGXHost 07-10-2009, 12:30 PM I'm sure it would help. I have a Blackberry that I use to receive and send e-mails, as well as checking WHMCS occasionally. It definitely helps you become more aware of any new tickets, e-mails, or even notifications such as new orders and server issues. Since nobody can really be around the computer 24 hours a day, having a phone with these functions can help improve overall response time to customers.

Thanks for your reply!
So with your Black Burry you can actually login to WHM and WHMCS admin? I agree man I was out for 5 hours today so I will need to invest in a good phone to help run my hosting business on the move.
IGXHost 07-10-2009, 01:55 PM Yes, Blackberry has a web browser, I'm sure the iPhone does too, probably a lot more advance one too with the touch screen and all. Using the browser to login to WHMCS securely. We also have the WHMCS mobile edition which helps.
Katatonic 07-10-2009, 02:01 PM I just use a laptop, but I do more complicated things than just answer support tickets.
In saying that, mobile phones are becoming incredible powerful these days, they are making laptops obsolete for a lot of people.
There's no reason why you couldn't, even develop a few apps or modify your hosting software for use with your iPhone.

Yes, Yes, and Yes. The iPhone is a fantastic tool for managing emails and support tickets on the go and is what I use mine for almost exclusively.
zomex 07-10-2009, 02:06 PM Thanks for your knowledge guys. Looks like I will be purchasing an I Phone 3GS
AquariusStorage 07-10-2009, 02:09 PM Another thumbs up :agree: for getting the iPhone as a business tool. Works amazingly well. It's almost like having a computer in the palm of your hands where ever you are. Also, check out the fun side of the iPhone once you get it as well :)
Thre is an app for everything :D
Vlada 07-10-2009, 02:30 PM You won't be able to do thing efficiently as from your computer, but it surely is a great help to stay on top, do quick things, or simply use it as a monitor for urgent things when you are on the move. I personally use Nokia E71, which is a great help for me to stay on top of things. As AquariusADMIN mentioned, you have application for almost anything you wish, from SSH and VPN clients to powerful tabbed web browsers, push email applications and services, IMs and even a remote desktop apps.
Go for it, you won't regret having it as a superb monitor / quick things tool.
Good luck with it! ;)
kjawaid 07-10-2009, 05:06 PM Well i am giving support to my client through phone now, though i don't use iphone but i have recently purchase N97 and no doubt its a tiny tini laptop... now i have put my 10" laptop with 3G wireless internet in the box which i use to carry every where.
phenglai 07-10-2009, 05:24 PM I vote also for the iPhone. What I do on my phone:
Telnet into the servers
VNC into the servers
Browse WHMCS
Ping servers for testing if needed.
Lots of apps that are very useful.
Hi there. I own and quite often use iPhone 3G (3GS is fine) for both answering e-mails (on the go helps a lot) as well as logging into WHMCS
Truth be told, I'd definitely like working on a computer rather than the iPhone for long messages, but having a web browser on the iPhone is a huge bonus. Especially since the browser on the iphone looks like a real browser.
I've been a blackberry user for years but recently switched to iPhone.
Blackberry's Email function is hands down the best on the market > iPhone E-mail service
But iPhone's apps + browser + functionality can't be matched.
I won't comment on the palm pre.
zomex 07-10-2009, 05:43 PM This is really great information, thanks allot everyone!
JH-Nestor 07-10-2009, 06:00 PM Im also interested, WHMCS admin area works fine?, because in windows mobile you cant surf it.

Couldn't agree more. Even the new Storm's browser isn't as good and easy to work with as the iPhone's unfortunately.
NickReffitt 07-10-2009, 07:19 PM I am looking to start up an online design agency, and I can definately see the benefit of being able to e-mail on-the-fly. My father has a blackberry, but I just feel theres nothing that competes with the iPhone yet.
IGXHost 07-10-2009, 07:31 PM The Blackberry Storm was suppose to compete with the iPhone. In terms of the Storm vs. iPhone, they seem to be pretty much the same to me. I like the touch screen of the Storm more but the iPhone definitely has a lot more apps available which in turn makes it a much more powerful tool.

I switched from the Storm to the iPhone because the Storm was trash. I was an early adaptor and got my Storm the first day, the day it was released with a nightmare operating system.
I didn't care for the BlackBerry emailing either :-/, and that's what I always hear people bringing up against the iPhone, is that nothing beats Blackberries for emailing.

Yep.. I have an iPhone 3G and it could do that. Additionally, you can wait for AT&T to allow tethering and buy an internet tethering plan, to use the 3G's internet onto your laptop on the go!
But yes, the iPhone 3G itself, using the Safari browser and mail app can answer emails and do tickets in WHMCS, you can even surf WHT. It's like a computer! :D
