Hello everyone, I just want to thank everyone here for all of the really good info. I've learned a ton since I joined. My question is: I have started a hosting/design company for my friends and relatives businesses and I puchased a reseller account. I have my first customer and now I need to know how to transfer her existing domain. www.example.com to my new reseller account? I know that she was registered through a different company by enom.com. The site is built it's stored on my server but her domain still goes to her old page! How do I change this?!?

Thanks

Change the nameserver from the domain control panel provided by their existing domain provider to your own nameserver.

Doddle right?

I'm trying to learn this myself - but from what I know, it involves your customer contacting her former host to request the relevant information - which can then be used by yourself to "propagate" the domain name.

Be warned - domain propagation can apparently take up to 72 hours. After that time, every server in the world will be able to point to the new and correct hosting address.

Yup, we heard of that as well.

Any further details in doing that?

Care to share?

If you have the login information for the register: ie. godaddy, verisign, etc, log in and find the link to manage the DNS servers. Then simply change the DNS servers to the ones you have.

Say the old ones were:
ns1.sitesitsherenow.com
ns2.sitesitsherenow.com

And yours are:
ns1.mysitehosting.com
ns2.mysitehosting.com

Just wipe out the old ones and replace with yours. Click whatever submit button they have and your done!

Most registers do say it may take as long as 72 hours to complete the transfer. Although it may not take this long.

That's pretty much it. Just change the nameservers where the site is registered at.
