Hello everyone, i'm currently building a reseller website and I was wondering if it's good to put a "splash" or "under construction" single page while i'm designing the whole thing.
The page would have a date of opening, a few teasers of the prices/services.
Would it be good to build trafic/rep while i'm designing my website or would it have negatives effects?
Thanks alot !

I have always believed that you should buy the domain and do nothing with it at all until your site is fully ready and you have had time to optimize it for the search engines. That way, when the engines crawl your site everything is 100% finished. That's just my opinion though, I'm sure you will find people that think it's better to do the splash/coming soon page also.

I agree with Adam,
People who come across your site while it's under construction won't return again. Also if you throw your site up without the correct page titles etc Google may index your site how it is. I done that with one of my sites and it took Google 1 month to update my page titles etc.
Also while building your site you will come across pages you need to add, move around and delete etc.
I also do that though. Im doing it as we speak with a couple of pages but it's best not to or at least upload pages as they are finished.

lol, i "Beg to differ", i think thats a good idea, i did it for a fansite and it was successful some avatars, kept it mysterious, and i put a mailing list so i contact them when the website is done, apart from the countdown..... thats just my opinion

Ofcourse this is all personal opinion, I'm not sure there is a right or wrong way to do it. My point is like sequencehosting said.. Google and other engines are going to visit the site when there really isn't much content there and I believe that hurts your rankings when you do decide to make the full site live. I'm not saying that people won't come back, I'm just looking at it from a seo perspective. I agree that there are some sites that can pull it off very well if it's done right and the content that will be there in the future is something that people will be excited to see. For other business though, it will just look bad when people visit and see it's under construction. I think the words "Under Construction" should be avoided at all costs. That was ok back in the 90's but not now.

I think it's necessary to at least have a page with contact information. It's also a good idea to give the people who seek out the company know that the website is in production and even have an estimated date of completion.
If someone starts a new business without a website and sends out information such as press releases, people will try to find the company website online. If they can't find a web presence it could reflect poorly on the company.
