I saw netfirms offers free dns host if I bought domain with them. What do you think of that service? currently I use freedns.afraid.org as my dns host with dreamhost as the registrar of my domain.

I'm satisfied with dreamhost service, especially free whois privacy, but does not offer dns host since I don't host my domains with them.

With netfirms, they also offer free whois privacy. But in DNS management, can I do things like I did on afraid? I looked around on their website it appears it can set A, CNAME and MX records. But does not state the ability to set TXT record. Can anyone confirm this?

I know I can always set the name servers back to afraid.org, but I think its tidier to have that in one place.

The 1.99 is with purchase of non-domain product

If you get your domain from a some GoDaddy resellers it can be less. Get free hosting and email too.

You can have free DNS hosting and free WHOIS privacy from any of the company using LogicBoxes/DirectI/ResellerClub platform.

You have to consider the bottomline

Total Cost = registration + privacy

And don't forget GoDaddy offers free hosting and email with registration

godaddy is my first registrar of my domain, I transfered my domain to dreamhost because godaddy charges $9.90 for privacy at that time, and also does not have free dns host. Now I guess they offer privacy for $1.95 and free dns host? I don't need free webhost and email, as for webhost I already rent an VPS for that. I prefers google apps for email needs, as I don't need more than 200 users atm.

Thank you for the suggestions guys, now time to look at godaddy's offers :)

many people don't know that godaddy.com has free offsite dns management,
just create a free account with them and look for "offsite dns management" in My Account Tab.

and yes with this service u can set all records= A, CNAME, NAMESERVER,SRV,SPF,TXT AND unlimited subdomains
