tsairandy 11-07-2002, 10:26 PM Help!!I have a very busy forum sites
I need the transfer/bandwide at least can over 100Gb a month
Who can tell me which Hosting company can provide this kind of service? ****Must support CGI***
Akash 11-07-2002, 10:35 PM Are you using a CGI based forum? If so, does it use a mySQL database?
I'd highly suggest moving a php/mysql host so you dont hog up system resources.
tsairandy 11-07-2002, 10:45 PM Does php/mysql host support CGI based forum too?
or you mean change to use php based forum and find Hosting that support php/mysql
But
my cgi forum doesn't use Mysql, Do I still need to find php/mysql host

my cgi forum doesn't use Mysql, Do I still need to find php/mysql host If your forums are really busy, switch to a php/mysql based forum (phpBB2, vbulletin, etc).
Also, most (if not all hosts) disallow cgi forums that don't use mySQL databases because they're almost always resource intensive.

the whole idea is to use a forum that ultilise php and mysql, not use a php/mysql host to run a cgi based forum
first thing you need to do is look for another forum.
dandanfirema 11-07-2002, 10:58 PM For a non-mysql, cgi based BB that uses over 100G, I would strongly recommend a dedicated server. The resource strain caused by your selection of software will most likely exceed any shared hosts provisions for your site.
tsairandy 11-07-2002, 10:59 PM so for host which one you guys recommand to use??

right?
No as stated above, if you want to continue using the cgi forum you have right now, you can get a dedicated box. that will run at a *bare* minimum of $150-$200, more if you require a server with a good amount of resources.
Of course you *could* get a server cheaper, but you'll give up some features (like support/quality)
faculty 11-07-2002, 11:02 PM Dedicated server - I would tell you to get one of them.. that way noone will complain when you bash the crap outa it - CGI is labour itensive - your server will really love you for it  :stickout:
trafficbuild 11-07-2002, 11:03 PM sort of. even you can find, you will mostly ended in a server that is heavily loaded
tsairandy 11-07-2002, 11:08 PM $150~$200 per month??
US dollars?
for Dedicated server which one you guys suggest to use??
Akash 11-07-2002, 11:10 PM Before you jump into getting a dedicated box right away, maybe tell us what cgi forums you are using? maybe someone knows of a way to convert the database so that you can use it with a php/mysql forum software? then youll be able to better see what kind of resources you need, and then might even save a few bucks ;)
tsairandy 11-07-2002, 11:31 PM actually, The forum I am using is a Chinese version forum made by people from China, so I think you wouldn't know what kind of forum it is! The forum called "Leoboard"
I am considering to change to use PHP based forum , but I think it will be English version. I don't know if I can change to Chinese by change some php code of English version PHP forum
trafficbuild 11-07-2002, 11:46 PM hi, i know chinese, and leoboard also. Once of my client describe to me that Leoboard is the best chinese board he saw so far....

One of my client is using phpBB with chinese theme, his board is at bbs.action-ahriman.com you can go there take a look, may be post a few stuff and see how is it working.
tsairandy 11-08-2002, 12:08 AM I just found some information of phpBB from Cinese Web Page
I think I could change to use this one
But Trafficbulid

Lippy 11-08-2002, 01:51 AM I can vouch about needing a dedicated, I just got my account suspended for this when I haven't even used up 20 GB of bandwidth for my site, though it is all php+mysql driven.
