View Full Version : Transfering a domain
Red_wolf6 06-28-2009, 09:28 AM Hi,
Back in 2007 I was 16 , My friend bought me a domain name (coz I didn't have a CC). Now i am able to pay for the domain , but my problem is that my friend is away and he rarely check his E-mails I sent him like 5 E-mails asking him if i could transfer the domain but without any answer.
I Just need the "Transfer Auth Code" to transfer the domain but i can't have it while my friend is away.
is there anything I could do ? I don't want to lose my domain(it'll expire in 2 months).
the domain registrar is Godaddy .
Thanks in advance
redmeds 06-28-2009, 11:20 AM Does your friend have a phone?
How did you renew the domain in 2008?
Who has the account with Godaddy?
Unless you are listed as the admin on the domain, there is not much you can do, other than keep trying to contact your friend for the transfer auth code.
Have you tried contacting using the credentials listed in his "whois" info on the domain?
Red_wolf6 06-28-2009, 12:35 PM Yeah , But I don't know the number .
He renewed the domain after 2 days (My site closed for 2 days - godaddy ads all over the site).
My friend has the account , I don't have an account there.
Yeah I have his E-mail , its the same.
I'll try to spam his E-mail again :D
Born4Holdem 06-28-2009, 12:47 PM What kind of friend is that if he does not answer your email and did not give you his phone number. Do you have his address, there is a communication method long forgotten that is called snail mail. Ask his mother.
jstanden 06-28-2009, 02:59 PM I wonder, in a case like that, if you'd be able to buy a GoDaddy Gift Certificate for yourself and then call them and ask to apply it to his account. It would at least keep your domain from expiring in the interim while you figure out how to transfer it.
If you are unable to contact him, just place a back order with GoDaddy. This will insure that when/if the domain expires you have the chance of getting it.

I thought "insure" and "chance" did not go well together, no? Seriously, GoDaddy just changed its backorder to auction a few weeks ago.

I don't know him in reality, just over the internet.

I hate godaddy I don't want to go with them, can i do that with another resgitrar like mydomain.com ?
FireFast 07-05-2009, 04:35 AM you will need to try and get hold of your friend, There is no other way as he needs to give you the authetication code to do the transfer.
Victor Lugo 07-05-2009, 07:48 AM Do you have a name or location? Knowing the domain name would help.
Hikari 07-06-2009, 10:31 AM These cases are cool.
ppl that have their domains registered under their friends, ppl that pay others to register and leave the domains and those ppl control...
And only "remember" of getting the control of the domain after is expires.
Don't take me wrong, I'm not blaming you, but if last year you "learned" that a domain expires and almost lost it, why didn't you get it from your friend back there?
You also didn't need to give the whole domain ownership and control to your friend, you could have just given him the account password so that he'd pay for it. There are even a few registrars that let you delegate your domain to somebody else's account... you could have given him the power to renew the domain from his account and leave it in yours. And of course, you could and should have used his info only on the billing part, and yours in the registrant and admin part of the whois.
The fact is that your friend IS the owner of the domain. Not only the whois owner, but the paying owner and the owner of the account that controls the domain. Now you need to contact him so that the gives the domain to you.
JesseB 07-11-2009, 10:32 AM Well there is nothing you can do really apart from keep trying to contact your friend.
