Are there any alternatives?

Wooh...been concealed to H-Sphere a little too long? :stickout: If you are talking about alternatives to a control panel that runs on both Unix and Windows, then I can think of one ATM. However, if you are refering to other possible control panels (Unix-based), just a few well-known ones are cPanel/WHM, Plesk, and Ensim.

ATM ?

We use Ensim and love it.. Ensim support both windows and linux. There site is www.ensim.com. While most of us here are running the Linux flavor of Ensim I am sure there are some windows hosts are here with it.. You could prob get some offers in the hosting requests forum if you post there..

Ensims windows and unix reseller plans are not combines plans like in h sphere. I beleive that h sphere is the only control panel surrently capable of doing both from one central location.

Maybe because you cannot have complete control over DNS (it's my case).

You don't have control over your own dns as a reseller with h sphere? That doesn't sound right. Everyone of our resellers gets dns control.

Actually Hostopia does. Even more powerful then HSphere. Of course, you can not just buy the CP, but you can buy their VMs and resell.

WebsiteOS is unavailable as a standalone control panel because it loses one of its key benefits if it is not run on a clustered, load-balanced, RAID-based architecture.

I didn't know hostopia had both integrated, nice to know.

I guess I should rephrase then, As far as I know H Sphere is the only outside available control panel that integrates both unix and windows. ;)

Integrato, what if you used the hosts name servers? Then there wouldn't be any aliases for mail, web, etc.

Would that work for you?

One issue I have seen with H-Sphere is its use of CNAME dns records for aliasing the name servers, control panel etc. for the reseller.

The issue is, if the host does not use non-branded domain name for its servers then the resellers customers can find out where the reseller is buying its accounts from just by doing a dns lookup or tracerout, ping etc..

I know that must customers can find out this information but why make it easy for them.

This is a poor way to “non-brand” the service, there are a few providers using non-branded domain names on there servers when running H-Sphere but most will use their main domain name.

My 2c.

We use a somewhat non branded name server name. We did that just in case some resellers didn't want their own name servers.

We kind of did the same thing. We use hsphere.cc and really goes no where. But because of NSI and having to have our info in the who is you can find out who the host is but its still better then using out main domain.. :)

I'm not sure what you mean (I'm not a specialist ;-). I used the personal nameservers available through the CP and zone transfer for .com domains went smooth. The problem occurs only for .it domains because the italian NIC refuses the zone transfer. So I have to use the nameservers of my italian registrar for the italian domains (I don't like to be forced, but this is the siituation.).

Main reason:
All H-Sphere installations currently base disk usage on Allocation
instead of actual use.
I need to go with actual usage instead of allocation based.

All installs are based on actual usage now. Its been changed since 2.2 I think.
