Cogent doesnt have very many peering partners, nor is their network built like abovenet or global crossings. Try pinging cogents routers for 24 hours and youll see a huge amount of packet loss.

I worked for a competitor of Cogent's, only using different technology (30 & 60 GHz spectrum). Cogent's pricing is unbeatable. Global Crossing is close to collapsing financially. Abovenet is equally congested especially the West Coast.

Yes cogents pricing is unbelieveable, but we are talking about quality of bandwidth. Take a look at cogents network map and then look at mfn's network map and global crossing's map. They cant even compare and nor can you say that cogents bandwidth is good quality. I have never seen ping times like this on a global crossing or mfn's network
