What does your network look like? Which transit links are used?

The core of our network consists of two core routers. Each router is connected to a separate upstream carriers. Cogent on one router, Level(3) on the other.

Each carrier is connected into the building over different metro fiber links. MFN/AboveNet fiber for Cogent, XO fiber for Level(3).

Each of our "top of rack" (customer attach) switches is connected to both core routers.

Currently we're utilizing Cogent as our primary carrier. About 15% of our traffic egresses out Level(3).

This design allows us to take an entire core router out of service without impacting connectivity on our network.

For Type 1 server, there seems to be a typo error on the RAID part as RAID 5 & 10 isn't possible with 2 drives.

For your 3rd post, where is InterNAP? Did you dropped it?

InterNAP is still in the mix, but it looks like we're shifting that traffic completely to Level(3) soon; which is why I didn't bother to list it.

RAID 5 and RAID 10 are both possible on 2-drive setups and work fine. In fact, when comparing RAID 1 and RAID 10 on the 2-drive systems you'll generally see better read performance from the RAID 10 setup due to it's striped nature.

It is the first time I had heard that RAID 5 & 10 are possible on 2 drives. Can you explain further?

Linux software RAID allows 2 drive setups for both RAID 5 and RAID 10. There's not much point in doing a RAID 5 2-drive setup unless you're looking for future expandability to more drives.

But for RAID 10 there are performance differences. Wikipedia does make some reference to them when it addresses the layout types for RAID 10 with the linux software RAID driver:

So RAID 5 & 10 is not possible only on hardware RAID?

RAID 5 & 10 work fine with software RAID.
