JonL 11-07-2002, 12:14 AM So far referrals and resellers have brought the most customers for me. CDHost 11-07-2002, 12:44 AM Word of Mouth Craig3281 11-07-2002, 01:46 AM Word of mouth is undoubtedly the more prevalent but without a professionally appearing and functional web design many customers will pass you by thinking it's a fly-by-night operation. On the Internet it's all about a potential clients perception of your business. Web Hosting Stuff 11-08-2002, 03:59 AM Word of mouth is definitely cool .. hmm has anyone used viral marketing to sell hosting successfully? (the online version of word of mouth) 2Grumpy 11-08-2002, 05:28 PM Considering our budget for advertising is $0 per month (ok we did spend like $170 the first 2 months in business, and it didn't seem to do jack for us), I guess it has to be word of mouth :D WildCard 11-08-2002, 06:16 PM Gary, CW going out of business seemed to help you some too, wouldn't you agree? :D How many servers did you go up in that 2 month period? -WC- Perfecthost 11-08-2002, 08:08 PM Word of mouth for us. That is, for the ones that tell us....I really don't know where most come from. We even added a space in our sign-up page that asks.....but, most just leave it blank. -Lamar IGobyTerry 11-08-2002, 08:21 PM Most of the people that I have are (only been open a month) from my HS. I like to mention my company name everytime I say something... a cheap plug. Like in speeches I'll go and say at the end "Be sure to check mysite.com, buy some hosting from it." A few people have. NxTek 11-09-2002, 03:36 PM Originally posted by CDHost Word of Mouth I agree. If someone likes you, they tell 3 people. If someone doesn't, they tell everyone they know. silversurfer 11-09-2002, 03:53 PM I think false advertising it is. :D j/k I go for word of mouth. derek.bodner 11-09-2002, 04:55 PM Spam j\k ;) 2Grumpy 11-09-2002, 05:12 PM Originally posted by NxTek I agree. What I've always said is, if someone likes your service, they might tell 1 person, if you're lucky, and if someone dislikes your service, they'll tell at least 10 people, guaranteed. It's a lot easier to make a bad name for yourself, than a good one. Benjamin 11-09-2002, 08:43 PM Originally posted by Perfecthost Word of mouth for us. That [b]is[\b] weird. Do you have a stats program for your site. Then you'll be able to see the referrals (unless they just entered your site's domain and didn't come from another web site). Perfecthost 11-09-2002, 11:18 PM If I didn't know better, I would say one of you guys were messing with my mind. I just got a legitimate order that said (in the "referred by" field) "Lamar's the man!!!!" LOL Yeah, we have a couple of stat programs running, but they haven't been the most helpful. -Lamar |
