Well i am still looking around for a place to buy rackspace or colocate for hosting. I was wondering whats your opinion on cais.net also known as ardent. Is 1mbs/100dollars worth it? Or is it a little too much. Thanks.

they were bought by somebody
their new name... beyond the network
coincidentally, i have a bill from them that came in the mail today... i supposedly still have some server up with them thats costing $250/month... even after i cancelled everything with them almost a year ago after they "lost" one of my dual p3 1ghz servers...

Ardent was bought by "Beyond the Network" a subsidiary of Hong Kong based Telecom giant PCCW

omg thats bloody funny! hahahahahahahahahahaha...
http://www.psychz.net/Services/fileserver.htm
question: 2 max sim users... can there b more/less www sessions? or no www sessions at all? cuz i mean... "unlimited transfer" means squat with only 2 sessions... thats like saying a ferrari with only 1 tire (and no, can't get more without paying unreasonable prices) is a fast car...
fyi: i was on ardent/cais/btn for years... literally... they don't charge for extra b/w on these "special deals" they work out... but once u get to anything signficant, they lay down the rules... say you are using 10Mbps... for $1330/month... the pipe is 100Mbps and supposedly unmetered... thats acceptable to them... then you jump to 40Mbps usage... cuz i mean... if u have the whole pipe, then why not just use it, right? ... well... then they come to you and say "dude, we just can't do this because its costing us more to offer you the service than we're charging you"... n stuff like that... n then they crap you at 30Mbps... and say... "if you want more, u gotta pay $80/Mbps..."... or something along those lines... so... if you wanna do business with 'em... make sure your agreement is airtight... especially regarding support response times... (because if you have a strong contract when it comes to usage allowances/etc... and they can't weasel out of it... what are they going to do? make you want to leave, instead of them booting you illegally... whats the easiest way to do that? can't take servers down or cause undue latency... thats illegal too... but... what they can do... is if u ever need a reboot... or any service query... they make sure they take the long way around the datacenter... ... ... i had to have one of the guys that works for me to fly out to the datacenter just to reinstall the OS on 3 servers... (new clients, wanted to start fresh)... they used to do that stuff b4 for a modest fee... or even free in some cases... and always very fast... i mean... irve towers (manager of the datacenter... or might b a director... hes higher up at the employee level atleast, not an exec last i knew him)... hes always been a cool guy in that datacenter, definately went the extra lightyear for the client (including as far as going to the datacenter from home afterhours to install another nic in one of my servers, taken from one of their own machines cuz i didn't have any extra ones there... !!!! and they didn't even charge me for any of it... including the nic... !)
