Why on earth would you want to host them in your office? I don't think it would be feasable to do that inexpensively and have any kind of performance. For just the price of a very small cable business line, you could pay for a very large reseller account or a semi-dedicated server or vps. Then you wouldn't have to worry about managing the server or as much security, and you'd be able to scale if you needed to. You could control them from your office as long as you aren't blocked by the firewall, and there are ways around that.

Its a bad idea, I know from experience. Start up with a reseller account as explained, then setup a lab at home. I worked with this stuff in a lab for over 1.5 years before getting into it. Its not something you learn over night. You are just asking for problems.

The problem you will run into here (and anywhere else) is that a complete rundown of what you need would take up volumes of information. There is a lot more to this than you think. It is a lot more expensive than you think. If it were really this easy, everybody would be doing it this way.

It's just this simple. You are going to have at least 12 sites on this server, each will grow in hits in time. You will quickly outrun the bandwith that your provider will allow and will have to pay more in bandwidth than a dedicated server would cost. Also, you will have to have a business account most likely from your provider. I'm hoping you at least have a cable or good DSL connection. A dialup won't run one semi-popular site.

Then, you have to learn about security and server management. One hacker and you could be done. If you do it at home, you'd probably be better off using another computer as a hard firewall.

You need to learn Linux in/out in the meantime. No reason to spend all that money and risk their sites when you don't need to yet. It'll take you enough time to learn just the hosting part of it (billing, control panels, etc).
