View Full Version : Grand Theft Auto Vice City
DaveMc 11-05-2002, 06:07 PM Has anyone else snagged this yet?
They made a lot of great improvements on it over GTA3. The radio stations are much better, and the cars resemble real models more-so than earlier versions. Plus, the interaction with other characters is much better.
I know there's a lot of controversy on this series, but I honestly believe that this sort of format for a game (the freedom to roam etc) is absolutely killer.
I don't know if its like this in other countries, but in the United States, entertainment is gravitating towards imitating real life. Both video games and television do at least (in that they simulate real life situations and give as much freedom to the development as possible). IMHO, the reality shows are growing _VERY_ old though! Good thing I don't watch much TV.
A friend of mine got it. Although I haven't played it yet, I hear it sounds amazing...;)
He also told me that the radio stations can get pretty hilaroius at times...:)

Yeah, they are great! The music makes me feel old though. nothin' like rammin' people down with tons of cops chasing you all while blaring Anthrax's Madhouse!
progex 11-05-2002, 07:51 PM The music is mid-80's music I believe, Michael Jackson, etc. ;)
Over 3 hours of music...
interactive 11-05-2002, 07:58 PM lol you know whats fun to do...pick up the bball bat...and go around and bash people...yes yes cruel but funny as heck..
prelude785 11-05-2002, 08:23 PM * wishes he had it * I've got all the gta version except vice city :(.
I've got a friend who sold his copy already. He blames it on general game play, gun control, and the daylight (and bright lights).
DaveMc 11-05-2002, 10:18 PM The lights are brighter for sure. They tried to make it look like Miami what with the sun and stuff.
The water was rendered much better as well IMHO....you still die if you go in it though
clocker1996 11-05-2002, 10:27 PM *waiting for it to come out for PC :( *
Acronym BOY 11-05-2002, 11:07 PM It almost makes me want to get a PS2.
And yeah, the sounds track rules!
akashik 11-06-2002, 12:30 AM sounds like fun - will be looking forward to the PC version.. lets hope the port is a little less 'interesting' than GTA3

TowerHost 11-06-2002, 12:36 AM GTA4 is sweet! Played it at my buddies house for a few hours. There is so much you can do in that game! After playing for only a few hours I still couldn't get up to 4 stars lol.
I need a PS2 :D
RackMy.com 11-06-2002, 12:39 AM I like 3 better, but don't get me wrong Vice City is cool :)
hostpath.com 11-06-2002, 10:16 AM If you just enjoy beating the living crap out of helpless victims and taking their money, my wife discovered that you can go down on the beach and beat dozens of people to death with virtual impugnity, PROVIDED you don't use a weapon any more advanced than your first, or a bat, or a billy club. Unless there's a cop nearby on the beach, you won't generate any wanted levels.
Be warned: the minute you use a knife or a cleaver to start slicing your victims, a wanted star will pop up.
"Vice City" does, indeed, rock. Particularly for those of us who wore out GTA3 and couldn't WAIT for this one.
DaveMc 11-06-2002, 12:53 PM Anybody know any cool cheat codes for Vice City yet? I usually don't succumb to them until I've totally exhausted my game playing abilities, but I can already imagine the field day I'd have with unlimited weapons (not to mention I can only get up to 2 stars insofar). It's no fun until the military is after you! :uzi:

Actually its about 8 hours of 80's music.
I have the game, aswell, there is a Soundtrack Boxed Set, which includes 7 soundtrack CD's plus a greatest hits cd, each radio Station has its own CD, and a little over an hour of music each station/cd.
Also, Anybody notice the radio pimp "lazzlo" from gta3 who said in the past used to work at a radio station is now one of djs in the game!

Kaumil 11-06-2002, 03:21 PM Grand Theft Auto 3 Was good. I could imagine that Vice City would be even better.
DaveMc 11-06-2002, 03:42 PM Thanks for the code page Rotohost! The "Pedestrians from Thriller" looks badass!
The codes are much different than the GTA3 ones, which is cool.

Absolutely!!! I almost fell off the couch when I realized that the Lamborghini I stole had "Yankee Rose" by David Lee Roth playing on the radio. I got a laugh out of that one. The music really is great.
I love the game. I've only really been able to play it a couple of times. I haven't been able to get past the level where you have to plant bombs on the building with the remote control helicopter. Has anyone else?
DaveMc 11-06-2002, 05:55 PM Yeah I got past that....the trick is to use the digital controls on the controller. Also, there's one barrell per floor...and once you drop the last one, you need to get out of the building....it just blows up.
There's a boat race that I'm in that's pretty tough. Also, the helicopter mission (a real heli) is pretty tough.
