Has anyone used the built in cPanel game management tool? I was thinking about firing it up for a private game server.
Any thoughts, comments on it?

Hossam 06-06-2009, 01:51 PM Yes i test CPGS (CPanel Game Servers) and its very good You can see the documentation here : http://cpgs.cpanel.net CPGS Forum : http://forums.cpanel.net/forumdisplay.php?f=41 i test it in this games MOHAA , COD and battlefield and working good, and i think all games also working good. Flumps 06-06-2009, 06:02 PM its been talked about many a times on here. it does work. weather or not its appriopriate to use in a live enviroment alongside cpanel...is debateable. cAPTAIN^k 06-07-2009, 05:36 PM weather or not its appriopriate to use in a live enviroment alongside cpanel...is debateable. whacha mean? JonBiloh 06-09-2009, 09:46 PM Game servers require accurate time keeping and are very CPU and memory intensive. Flumps was simply saying that the accepted view is that cPanel (and potentialy many web accoutns) and Game Servers shouldn't be mixed. Check out TCADMIN and SwiftPanel for game server specific options. cAPTAIN^k 06-09-2009, 10:17 PM I still don't really understand what you guys mean. cPanel knows their core product of cPanel/WHM can be resource hungry... Thats why cPGS is a very light daemon that runs on a server dedicated to hosting games which then talks to the other server running cPanel :) I hope this makes things a bit clearer for you! mooseweb 06-09-2009, 10:45 PM I still don't really understand what you guys mean. cPanel knows their core product of cPanel/WHM can be resource hungry... Game Servers are very RESOURCE needy, that's what were saying. cPanel does require quite a bit, but not nearly as much as a game requires. What they basically mean is websites and game servers shouldn't be on the same server. cAPTAIN^k 06-09-2009, 10:55 PM What they basically mean is websites and game servers shouldn't be on the same server. yeah, exactly. and with cPGS - you don't have to :D mooseweb 06-09-2009, 11:01 PM yeah, exactly. and with cPGS - you don't have to :D Even with cPGS, you do not want to, maybe you've never hosted a game server before and just don't understand. I used to run multiple game servers via cPGS and I decided to toss a forum on the server. It caused so much lag in game, and the forum barely even loaded. Removed the forum, removed the lag. MattS 06-09-2009, 11:06 PM I'm using it, and I must say, it's something cPanel really worked on. Too bad they couldn't invest that time into their main product. I actually like how easy it is to set up and everything. cAPTAIN^k 06-09-2009, 11:52 PM I used to run multiple game servers via cPGS and I decided to toss a forum on the server. Was your cPanel installation was on the same machine as the game server with cPGS or was the forum hosted on a seperate machine with cPanel on that and the game servers running on their own machine? Hossam 06-12-2009, 05:50 AM cPGS its great addon for game server but when use it in your personal server But not practical to work in game server hosting because consume lot of resources CPU and Memory Deehem 06-12-2009, 06:04 AM It's not that the game will not work usually, it will push out different serverside playing views, nodes running things alongside will push out bad FPS and will sometimes lock it up. It's okay for a personal server, but you won't get the best server performance ever, nowhere near to a match server ;) Hossam 06-12-2009, 07:05 AM It's not that the game will not work usually, it will push out different serverside playing views, nodes running things alongside will push out bad FPS and will sometimes lock it up. It's okay for a personal server, but you won't get the best server performance ever, nowhere near to a match server I respect your point of view, but we can't deny ever about this addon cPGS, this is great thing to credit with cPanel I'm someone from people cPGS saving to me lot of money instead of buy new server for game server only and i use my server for the site and game server both and server working good :) Also i can managed and full control on the game servers free Deehem 06-12-2009, 09:11 AM I understand completely where you're coming from. I tried this a good few years ago alongside cPanel, I guess it's changed alot since then. This is much before I looked into the GSP industry. Just don't expect to run high-performance gameservers such as pure 100 tickrate or large scale FPS :) copxxx 06-26-2009, 06:24 AM Just don't expect to run high-performance gameservers such as pure 100 tickrate or large scale FPS :) Why not? I have many cpgs servers and many with 100 tickrate. You just have to own some great high quality server :) XFactorServers 07-10-2009, 09:46 AM Yea, I do not suggest using cpanel as a control panel. NetHosted - Bret 07-10-2009, 11:19 AM I don't see why you couldn't run 100tick / boosted FPS srcds servers using cPGS. You can run cPGS on a VPS and then have the daemon running on a dedicated server. I don't see what makes you think it can't control high quality servers. Unless you presume they're going to try and run them on a shared web hosting account. |
