I'm not sure if you'll find an exact number, given how much it changes. I do recall seeing a quote about it on webhosting.info not long ago, but can't seem to find the article now. :(

im not guessing however I presume its well in the millions...as the above person said its changing all the time.. (increasing)..for example I got a quote for a cage at £4,000 PM 6 months later it was at £9,000 so good luck trying to find an accurate figure...proberly why you havent found anything yet.

I doubt you'll be able to find an exact figure. Mainly since the biggest players don't exactly release all their accounts, and so it's hard to make an estimate about the value of the industry.

Well im thinking maybe the value would be $5-10 per website, and with 180 million websites.. that was my thinking,

Well im thinking maybe the value would be $2/3 per website, and with 180 million websites.. that was my thinking,
The average website may be worth that, although you get numerous businesses (both small and large) having websites hosted too, so the average is probably quite a bit higher than that.

thats true but, not every website has its own hosting account :) so that was my thinking around the $5-10

The "hosting" industry might be difficult to define. Do you include within that - datacenters and transit and fiber providers?

If you include servers, managed hosting etc. web hosting should be a multi-billion dollar industry.

Level3 alone has revenues of $4.5 billion per year.

Yeah its in the billions. like dazmanulra said. although in the future im thinking it will be worth way less then it is now

i do agree, one day it will probably cost lesser to own a dedicated server. Maybe to an extend of home pc as dedicated server.

aswell as 1 host taking over. i remember a 256mb ram server costing 300+ dollars. now your going to be able to get like 32gb for less then 200 a month. plans will be like 40 cents each

Why exactly do you need this information, school project? Need to quote for an editorial?

If it's so that you can look at "going into the business" it's hard to say, and how do you define the industry anyways?

You could always look at some of the bigger players and use that as a lower-bound.
