View Full Version : I知 looking for reliable reseller hosting and my budget $30
maestro777 06-03-2009, 02:22 PM I知 looking for reliable reseller hosting and my budget $30. Most of the sites on there will be basic brochure sites with a database to update news and prices etc. Some will be bigger business sites. For the photoblog and e-commerce site I will probably go the dedicated way. Can anyone recommend a reliable dedicated server host? What about VPS, but I guess for $30 I wont get enough bandwidth/space?
I致e looked into Hostgator and InnoHosting for the brochure sites. I noticed that Hostator has packages ranging from 24gb space/250gb bandwidth to 100gb/700gb but they do not allow overselling.
Innohosting on the other hand has packages ranging from 5Gb space /100Gb bandwith to 20Gb/350Gb and the do allow overselling.
Questions:
1)Why does Hostgator offer higher packages in terms of bandwith/space. Do they really have that space bandwidth available, are they overselling?
2.1)Is it the same reason that Innohosting do not offer those kinds of packages, because they themselves do not oversell.
2.2And if you want that amount of space and bandwidth that works reliable you should rather get a dedicated server?
Tristan Perry 06-03-2009, 02:32 PM If you want managed support, I'd advise against a VPS for now since at $30 per month you couldn't really get quality service with cPanel/WHM and fully managed support.
In answer to your questions:
1) HostGator do oversell, yes. They may have bigger hard drives and better connections meaning they have more disk space and bandwidth available, but as a general rule they are overselling, yes.
2) It doesn't look like they are overselling much (or at least not as much as HostGator), so yes - that's probably why the packages are less.
3) Not really. If you want < 100 GB disk space and < 1 TB bandwidth, a beefy VPS could be fine for you. However as stated above, for $30 per month you probably couldn't get a quality managed VPS with 'a lot' of disk space and bandwidth. A dedicated server would give you 200+ GB disk space and 2,000+ GB bandwidth, so that'd be more than you are looking for.
Out of interest, how much space and bandwidth do you want? :)
IGXHost 06-03-2009, 02:43 PM A VPS is possible for $30 but it will have minimum specifications which may reduce the performance of your websites.
maestro777 06-03-2009, 02:46 PM Well its difficult to say at this stage as I have about 6 sites I want to host. I want what $30 can get me, but none of this unlimitted bull, I want something reliable. As I add more sites I would like to monitor performance (is that possible) and then I will start to learn what my needs are etc.

Maybe i misunderstand your needs, but you do not want unlimited bull but you do want overselling allowed on a reseller package, those two statements do not go together to well. Could you explain ?

Given that they allow the resellers to oversell, it stands within reason that they would limit or eliminate the practice on their side. All things being equal, the two approaches tend to balance out.
Cape Dave 06-03-2009, 05:08 PM I have been with Aquarius Storage for almost 4 months now. I am very satisfied with the service provided.

Yes I don't want them to oversell to me, but I want to oversell to my clients. If they oversell and I do, well then I can't expect reliable service. No one has said anything about Innohosting or Hostgator, am I in safe hands with them?
IGXHost 06-04-2009, 02:46 AM A lot of positive reviews about both companies. Look up some client testimonials ;)
rumsfo 06-04-2009, 04:54 AM I think that you need to discuss all the questions with the HG stuff as well. I assume that they are experts and know what they offer and what is allowed and what is not allowed there.
Also they are not only company. Just make short survay among web hosting ads forums here
Cheers
ldcdc 06-04-2009, 04:59 AM If they oversell and I do, well then I can't expect reliable service. Not necessarily. Things depend a lot on how they play the game, how much they oversell etc. These things you can't measure, and you don't have access to these figures as a customer or potential customer.
I doubt that you narrowed down your choices to HG and Inno for no reason at all. If you've done your research and you trust the companies based on their track record, all you need to do is choose the offer that best fits your particular needs and target market.
rumsfo 06-04-2009, 05:01 AM Dealing with oversellers that is always a risk and if you have huge (or your customers) needs overselling service subscription that is not the way of saving money.
Cheers
