Hi,

I am after some information what is the best Linux Software to be using for a server and where can I get the full install version of?
I take it I can use any PC over a pentium cpu.
Also how do I work out these U1, U2 etc... for space for colo?

Regards,
Garry

debian and redhat are used most for servers I think.

U1 and U2 are 19" rack unit measurements... if you have a regular desktop/tower computer then this won't have those measurements.... it will be harder to find colo space if you want to use such a computer.

I agree with skoop that Debian and RedHat are the most popular flavours of Linux. We use a minimal RedHat 7.3 install and then build the packages as we require them.

As for your rack measurements, in a standard 19" rack, each RU (rack unit) is 1.75" and there are just over 40RU in a rack but some will be used for power and other things at the colo center.
