DIE 56k modem, DIE :stickout:
Darth 11-05-2002, 05:04 AM Ouch? :( very expensive, but you pay for quality ;)
UH-Matt 11-05-2002, 05:18 AM They charge you by your transfer? man they better not do that here in the ok, I have 3 adsl lines maxed out at 60k/s constant :) :)
faculty 11-05-2002, 05:32 AM Quality?! hahahhaa... gary, I use this cable... this is not quality. This is the "Cogent" of "Cogent" if you get what I mean..
I can't believe with BT in the UKwe are actually better off than somebody else....
Aushosts 11-05-2002, 06:20 AM There are unlimted downloads 256k ADSL plans around for AU$90/month
Aushosts 11-05-2002, 06:21 AM There are unlimted downloads 256k ADSL plans around for AU$90/month.
Bigpond are slow over priced and customer service is not there.
UH-Matt 11-05-2002, 06:27 AM I pay £22 (~=$35) per month for 512k down 256k up
I have 3 of these lines and they are all unlimited...
For the first time ever the UK seems ok for somethign related to the web!!!!!!
Those damn people in the netherlands get the best deal though.. they get 1-2mbps for the same price as we pay.
UH-Matt 11-05-2002, 06:28 AM We should all add a note that we dont use these personal connections for our webservers before any newbies get concerned :)
susannad 11-05-2002, 06:29 AM but you pay for quality I'm happy to pay for quality, it's just getting quality that's the problem

True ;)
susannad 11-05-2002, 06:43 AM please don't get me wrong here, I really have no problem paying for things .. ( well I go without food for a couple of weeks :) what's more important ? )
but it's the rotten, bloody rotten monopoly in australia that gets up my nose
and yes, before everyone jumps in .. I know it's a big big big country and 4/5 of it has no infrastructure for IT outside of the 1/5 and I don't mind paying a bit more as long as my bit more goes towards the other 4/5 somewhere, somehow...
not in some bloody CEO's already unbelievable huge salary
sorry </rant>
faculty 11-05-2002, 07:16 AM Another happy Telstra Customer..
NOT!
susannad 11-05-2002, 07:22 AM you mean tel$tra
TheDoctor 11-05-2002, 10:49 AM There are unlimted downloads 256k ADSL plans around for AU$90/month
SpiritAu .. where ? I'm on 512K ADSL 3gig Peak and 7Gig off Peak (total 10Gig) for $99 however unlimited would be nice.
Unlimited 512k would be even nicer, I get a bit tired of staying up until Midnight just so I can start downloading, then I have to get up before 7am to stop the download otherwise it gets charged at peak time.
Doc
That's ridiculous!!!
I thought that was the whole point of broadband... no worrying about costs of when your online!!!

Apple communications
visit whirlpool.net.au for aussie broadband news and forum.
TheDoctor 11-05-2002, 11:41 PM Thanks for that SpiritAu.
It turned out to be quite a useful link. I particularly like the fact that there plans use a static ip.

TheDoctor 11-05-2002, 11:53 PM My Goodness looks like I thanked the wrong person ... must be my alltimers acting up.:bawling:
Thank you net-trend;)
net-trend 11-05-2002, 11:55 PM Hahaha no worries :) for a moment i thought spiritau posted the link and i didn't notice. :)
Selpaw 11-06-2002, 12:25 AM Go iiNet http://www.iinet.net.au/
-or- If you live in WA you could also consider
WestNet - http://www.wn.com.au/
Arachnet - http://www.arachnet.net.au
Only problem we have with iiNet atm is frequest disconnections - but this could be a fault at Telstra... which wouldn't suprise me.
I have a couple of clients with http://www.applecomm.net and they have no complaints.. I'm thinking of switching myself, they have an unlimited package as well, just a little slower on the transfer.
TheDoctor 11-06-2002, 12:29 AM Thanks warp ..however at the moment apple looks better for my planned application ... if it get off the ground..
What I really need at the moment is a contact phone number for
wireless.org.au ... would anybody happen to know it.. can't find it on there site.
LinuXpert 11-06-2002, 01:08 AM http://www.tpgi.com.au , they charge $19.99/month plus usage fee
Pay As You Go 256v (Metro 256/64K ADSL Connection)
Downloads charged at 15c per MB up to 400MB, thereafter you get 10GB of downloads for FREE, thereafter 5c per MB
Aushosts 11-06-2002, 01:30 AM Yea if you go through TPG put in my dealer code QLBJC.
TheDoctor 11-06-2002, 01:34 AM "Pay As You Go 256v (Metro 256/64K ADSL Connection)

Not actually that good. $19.99 + 400mb * 15c that
$19.99 + $60 = $79.99 Now that's only Capital city and suburbs.
I would have to get the Metro Max plan
$24.95 + $60 = $84.95 and that's only 257/64K
Currently I get 10G 512K for $99.95
there 512k regional is $39.95 + 300mb @ 15.9
that's
$39.95 + $47.70 = $87.65 for just 300mb
and you have to pay 8c MB after that
Summary ------ To Expensive

TPG internet.....only go with them if you want to get ripped or only use broadband for checking your email.
Aushosts 11-06-2002, 03:42 AM different plans suit different people
DMH DaZ 11-06-2002, 03:46 AM Yes.. and also... i have a little problem.. im on that stupid pair gain system (i call it pain gain) which doesnt allow ADSL and telstra refuses to upgrade my line, so im in a bit of trouble, because i want it soooooo bad
Anyways, this is my input:angry:
Darren
coight 11-06-2002, 10:11 AM Im on netspace 512/128k can't complain however on friday my line is being upgraded to 1.5mbit.
coight 11-06-2002, 10:52 AM Nevermind just checked the ethernet modem 1.5mbit is on now :D
AussieHosts 11-06-2002, 10:54 AM Did you go with the Plus plan Robert? Any upgrade charges, or just a straight changeover? I couldn't find this on the site or Whirlpool.
Gary
coight 11-06-2002, 11:27 AM I submittied on friday, when it was obvious I went 500mb's over (I had my date's mixed up)
So at that time it was $199.95, however they still don't know it's connected, and it still states im on 512 :D
It's a 65 upgrade fee, but now I get 17gb/mth downloads. Tests from netspace ftp is around 120kb/sec
AussieHosts 11-06-2002, 12:00 PM Sounds tempting. We're lucky if we use 2GB/mth, but the extra speed would be nice. :)
Gary
TheDoctor 11-06-2002, 07:08 PM Gary I wouldn't worry about the extra speed you still wouldn't be able to write posts any quicker.
AussieHosts 11-06-2002, 07:22 PM True Doc... :)

Darren
TheDoctor 11-07-2002, 03:20 AM I have rang a few times and got nowhere..... i hate Telstra... stupid cost cutting systems

"Everybody loves Telstra, Every~~~~"
No hang on sorry that's ... "Everybody loves Harvey Norman"

CritticAge 11-07-2002, 03:31 AM Word on the street is that telstra staff will be able to get ADSL packages (ADSL for cheaper)....good thing my mum works for them, no? :D :stickout:
DMH DaZ 11-07-2002, 03:38 AM LOL.. but my line wont support it! It's so frustrating.... i feel like smashing that system, but then.... i lose the fone for a few dayz, then im back to square one. so that useless.. hmmmmmm
I should make a new jinlge.... "Every1 hates Telstra!!" :D
