Hi, I am finding a company to host my magento cart, and have the following requiremnet:

1: The server ideally is located in US west coast. I do business in Japan, China, US and Europe, the west coast would be an ideal server location
2: The company would provide shared , VPS and dedicated hosting service. I can start as a lower level service, and am able to upgrade when necessary

The Inmotionhosting business power plan would be suitable to me, but it seems some Magento installation problem when hosting there(I know this from Magento and Inmotion forum).

Do you have any suggestion to me?

Thank you very much

Magento is a very demanding application. You need a strong host, preferably one that has experience with Magento.

Personally I think you should start with a mid/high end VPS and depending on the popularity of your site, and how many customers you can upgrade your VPS spec or move to a dedicate server.

You can have a look at this Wiki for some hosts who promote Mageno: http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/general/magento-web-hosting#united_states

You may also notice that most providers will start offering 'containers' (essentially VPS) for catalogues of 1000+ products.

If you are looking for Magento Hosting you have to know that optimized servers for this are really important.

The load time of your website is much longer on a system which is not optimized for Magento.

Magento works perfectly well on a smaller (well configured) hosting like shared hosting; however it depends very much on how large your shop is going to be; obviously it makes a huge difference if you have 10 items for sale or a thousand items.

I guess this is why the OP wants to find a provider where he can upgrade from one level to the next, which is a very smart move.

If West coast is automatically the best solution is something i do not know, the latency from Europe is quite high and to say its always the best solution for Asia is not true either, but i would test and check this with the hosting provider you are going to choose; there are other ways to make the viewing experience for the end-user more smoother. (think about a CDN for all images , css and js.)

Hope you find the right host for your online Magento shop.

I use A2 Web Hosting for my Magento shared hosting site. Their performance is wonderful and they have optimized their config for Magento. You can view my site at ipicpublishing.com

Hello,

I own a Magento store and I'm hosted in a VPS with 1GB RAM and I'm having a lot of slmmemorylimit alerts.

Has anybody tried nexcess magento hosting?

Thank you.

I used Aspiration hosting - aspirationhosting.com on a shared plan with Magento.

While I decided Magento was not for me, you can't go wrong with Aspiration hosting, their setup for Magento even for a shared server was really fast, along with good support for Magento.

Thanks for the kind words Bill. Hope to work with you even though you are using other eCommerce platforms. ;)

Your quite welcome James, as much deserved for your Magento support that you have given me.

Sorry I haven't needed much help lately ;)

You are right. :)
West coast is good for visitors coming from asia, australia or NZ.

Is anyone running a production store with a decent catalog size and traffic on Nexcess' new SIP hosting plans? It's a relatively new service launched in mid-May and I was wondering if anyone could weigh in.

I'm currently using Crucial and not very satisfied. Poor performance on their semi-dedicated container plan on a low-traffic site with # of SKU's way below what they state this plan can handle.

Due to the fact my store is for american but also european customers, I decided to host my Magento store in Nexcess servers (nearer to east coast). I am now on a SIP100 plan, with less than 400 skus.

The performance is awesome. Everything is running perfect. But I have just moved this week.

I suggest to give them a try.
