I am close to ordering a new Linux VPS with Directadmin and would like to choose a Debian-based distro.... So I was wondering of choosing Debian or Ubuntu... Are they officially supported by Directadmin?

I'd recommend CentOS if going with DirectAdmin (from personal experience)

I agree go with CentOS if you are going with DirectAdmin. With the control panel there is really need to care what OS is on the backside unless you are not familar with yum and you like apt-get that much better. DirectAdmin on a CentOS Box is very stable you should not have any problems.
