View Full Version : Putting a blog on my site
Tom Vayianos 05-26-2009, 02:06 PM Hi guys, I'm sorry if this is a basic question... which I'm pretty sure it is, but my web design knowledge is very limited. I want to put a blog on a page of my website (the site is already made, but it is not online yet). I really have no idea as to what I should do because I don't want it to look like I just embedded a free blog service onto a page of my website and have it not match the look of the rest of the pages. Despite my poor web design skills I've managed to make the rest of the site professional looking and to my pleasing, but I don't want the blog page to throw everything off and look really amateurish.
I've never used a blog before, so I don't know that much about the different types of services out there... but I don't want to pay for one. Would there be any drawback (as far as optimizing the site for search engines, etc) to just manually making a blog... like using html to post a blog title, date, and entry, and then just using the same style over and over for each post? Or is there some sort of script that would allow me to install a blog on a certain page without signing up for an account such as wordpress? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
-Tom
custom-hosting 05-26-2009, 02:12 PM You dont have to sign up for wordpress, you can install it on your own website and use it from there.
Its a 'one click install' from fantastico/installatron if your host provides these script installers, else you just have to download it and then upload it to your site and follow the script.
The harder bit will be integrating wordpress (or any other blog) into your theme, if you have coded your entire site thus far, you should have enough knowledge to do it yourself, you will need to google/whatever making your own wordpress template, then use your current website template to generate this.
Tom Vayianos 05-26-2009, 02:44 PM Oh wow, I didn't realize it was that simple. I should have checked out wordpress' site before posting this. Thanks!
s2mu3123 05-26-2009, 04:53 PM Its very easy tp add blogs in your Wordpress as it is very easy cms and there is no need of doing login for adding the blog. You can also install via FTP or Cpanel and just change wp-config-sample.php file and rename to wp-config.php put the database (db)username, db password, etc in that file. upload that file. Then Add blog title name and your email address and just save its username and password for the wp-admin.
[ post a blog title, date, and entry, and then just using the same style over and over for each post ] for this you can make change in css as per you want for the style and you can post a blog from admin and as well as SEO (optimizing the site for search engines) you can search for the plugins of SEO friendly plugins which are available from http://wordpress.org/ you can search there and also SEO friendly themes are also available.
Try this out it will be helpful for you to create a blog.
jbellenfant 05-28-2009, 06:40 PM I recommend using the all-in-one SEO plug in. Search Google for "SEO plug in." It is free, and very helpful for optimizing your blog for SEO.
Carol_Ferndale 06-03-2009, 07:44 AM Yes, I recommend WordPress. And it should be fairly easy to find a theme that will blend in with the rest of your site.
gemwebhost 06-03-2009, 08:26 AM Hi,

nicolas_ 06-04-2009, 06:06 PM Creating a blog is relatively easy if your host uses Installatron or Fantastico. It can be set up instantly.
chasehosting 06-17-2009, 05:08 AM WordPress is great, there are also many free blogging services out there that will give you your own free blog at no charge, you don't even have to install or maintain it, just signup and activate your account. Some popular ones are Wordpress.com (http://wordpress.com), Blogger.com (http://blogger.com), LiveJournal.com (http://livejournal.com), NoCostBlog.com (http://nocostblog.com), and several others.
thefandango 06-17-2009, 11:16 AM Once you have installed Wordpress, make sure you get the "all in one SEO " plugin, and activate the askimet plugin using your wordpress API.
andy345 06-20-2009, 11:15 AM Hey Tom Vayianos,
Guys are right. I find blog more than maintaining a website, i had many blogs which i manage very easily. All in seo and akismet are really good plugins and can also use wp-cache it makes the cache of each page and site loads up really quick.
