I request that the following rule should be deleted

Participants may not instruct users to check your e-mail, check your PM, or inform them that they've got mail or a new PM, or any variant thereof. This rule is also applicable in the advertising forums.

Does it kill anyone? does it send cpu resources flying out of the roof? does it make members sad? all the answers to these are no. Everyone breaks it, including the mods, whats the point of the rule? does it harm anyone?

Thank you ;)

It causes persons that are subscribed to a thread to learn that there is a new post; only to find out that the new post is someone telling someone else to "check yur mail."

Is there anyone here that *doesn't* check their email?

Everyone speeds, including cops -- but we still have speed limits in place.

I don't have one opinion one way or another . . . but I instantly thought of that.

I guess it's in place for threads where all 120 posts become "hey, check your PM" That way, the mods can squash it.

This is basically the premise behind the guideline (and the fact that people were complaining to being alerted to new replies of just 'check your mail' -duhhhhhh).

Posting 'check your mail' on the forum is amazingly less useful than the smiley only posts (ie: :D), which people complain about as well. Personally, I don't have much of a problem with smiley only posts. If you ain't got much to say, and that picture says it all, I'd rather look at a smiley picture than read ten, "I agree!" 's posts.
