My wife and I have been assisting people with websites for awhile now as just a hobby that we can do for a few extra bucks per month. Do to word of mouth we are getting to the point where my wife is quiting her job and doing this from our home office since she is Pregnant and wants to stay home with the baby after he is born.
The question I have is, Right now we have one of those Unlimited Everything Plans which is fince since there is not a single client that will ever want to log into the control plan. However, I am wondering if we are getting to the point where I should just be a Reseller and have the ability to host for those that hire us for their web design along with adding New Domain Names for them, but also have the ability to pick up a few more bucks a month from Others that are just looking for something and stumble onto me.
There are so many people out there that offer Resellers accounts I am getting confused. I use Hostmonster now but they don't offer resellers accounts so I am going to need to switch companies even though I think they are great.

Anyway, Long story Short Any good suggestions Right now we are doing 8 Sites nothing to big mostly Blogs and Static Company pages.

Thanks,
Drew

So you're looking for a reseller plan, correct?

IF you're looking for a reseller plan, it's safer to stay away from the unlimited plans if you want to become a reseller. It ultimately is much more stable and reliable since you have an actual quota which you can offer to your clients.

Do you know how much disk space/bandwidth you may need? What about a budget?

Welcome to WHT by the way. :)

I think hostmonster uses cPanel, so you probably would want a reseller account that uses cPanel as well. As Jonathan said, stay away from unlimited bandwidth/diskspace plans, because I have yet to find one hosts that offers that and stability.

How comfortable are you supporting end-users? Test out your reseller host's support because they will be your "go to guys" when there's something you can change/fix, etc.

You are probably on regular shared plan with hostmonster. The negative aspect of that is that you are hosting all your domains in one cpanel account meaning your customers do not have direct cpanel access to their sites. Thats the benefit of a reseller account each domain will have its own separate cpanel account.

Start by figuring out how much disk space and monthly transfer you will need all together, and then find a cPanel reseller account with a good upgrade path to accommodate your needs as your business grows.

Make sure the price matches what is being offered. If it sounds too good to be true there may be performance problems later, which could hurt your business.

I reccomend innohosting for stabability and end user support. resellerzoom for plan availablilitys. and surpass for high resources but slightly less uptime. * 5 grammar mistakes in this sentence*

You should get a small cpanel reseller account and upgrade when you need more resources.
Most cpanel hosting providers offer free website transfer so the switch is very easy.

http://www.hostmonster.com/ does in fact use cPanel, so this does in fact simplify the transfer process away from them to a degree, however if you will want each of those 8 websites you currently host to have their own control panel like they should, it will require some sit down time on your end once you initiate the transfer.

I cannot believe you put up with the add-on domain setup of cPanel for this long. It's terrible :(.

A web hosting provider which provides cPanel reseller web hosting is going to be your best bet as it will allow for a smooth transfer of your files from Host Monster. Just ask your new provider before placing their order if they can do a free transfer of your files, and they should be able to assist you with that.

cPanel reseller web hosting allows you to break down each domain into having its own control panel, the way hosting should be ;). You will be able to provide login information to each of your clients. You can automate the process of provisioning accounts with something such as ClientExec or WHMCS (some reseller providers include one or the other for free!).

For a budget, you're looking at needing at least around 10$ to pickup a reliable reseller web hosting plan. Start small and upgrade as needed. No reason to waste $$ in these economic times on resources you may never use. With blogs and basic static HTML sites, you should easily be in the range of reseller and no where close to a VPS or Dedicated server yet.

You should get a small cpanel reseller account and upgrade when you need more resources.

I also say-so.
A smaller plan could be your handy testing tool for new host.
I guess maximum 10 GB disk space would be enough for your 8 sites. You can sign up to a quality and high rated host through this strategy.

Any reseller host with cPanel will fit your needs. I advise you to stay away from offers such as unlimited diskspace/bandwidth. These simply do not exist, they will have limits set on other resources for example cpu/ram. Your best bet would be to find a reseller account with atleast 5gb space/50gb bandwidth.

Most hosts will transfer your websites from your current host to the reseller account for free. There will be downtime but it can be minimized.
