View Full Version : Credit cards.
KW-Host Nick 05-23-2009, 08:39 AM Hi,
So I saw an advert on TV for the iPhone. It was called CC Terminal, It's a walking credit card terminal.
Basicly, I would like to know if I can do offline credit card transaction via this terminal.
Thank you.
ManobanWeb 05-23-2009, 08:47 AM Once you have all the required details I don't see why you can't.
I'm guessing the person or company that made it have intergrated it with a certain merchant. So I'm guessing you also need an account with them.

Yes - I am sure, I think it'll work when they sign up for "offline credit card" in WHMCS, we give them a call to confirm it's them then we charge the card.

That's the one I am on about. It's really good about to purchase.
everity 05-23-2009, 07:51 PM I am confused by the term "offline credit card." To be offline, you would have to be able to physically swipe the card, which is not possible without a card reader of some sort.
Otherwise, you don't need an app to be able to process cards, so long as your phone has a decent web browser and you have a gateway, such as Authorize.net.
zendzipr 05-23-2009, 08:32 PM If you need a portable solution, I would not recommend the iPhone. Not only is it not PCI compliant and possibly insecure but if you handle physical credit cards, you loose the chargeback protection from the magnetic strip data.

Similar to telephone orders you can put through a card holder not present transaction to be able to process the card 'offline'. I imagine the iPhone terminal would be fantastic, saves on the heavy costs of renting a processing terminal.
everity 05-24-2009, 08:39 AM Depending on volume, the cost would actually be higher than using a terminal, since transactions that are swiped through a terminal have lower processing fees.
Offline generally means the cardholder is present and that you prove it by swiping their card, resulting in lower processing fees. Just because you are using your phone does not make the transaction offline.
I do not see the benefit of an app that lets you manually type in credit card numbers when you can already do that from pretty much any phone anyway. It seems like it would be less secure than going directly through the gateway.
GarethP 05-24-2009, 09:18 AM My understanding of that app is that it allows you to take card payments while your out of the office, which is handy if you make sales at peoples offices/homes.
You enter the credit card details and it passes it to paypal pro for processing instantly. I don't think it stores the credit card details (but I could be wrong).
I would say that this is more useful for door to door sales persons etc that need to be able to take credit card details while on the road, and is more secure than writing the details on a piece of paper.
everity 05-24-2009, 10:29 AM Absolutely, but you don't need a special app to do it. I still don't see what all the hype is about.

I guess it makes it easier as it's got a better UI for the iPhone than the virtual terminal webpage would have that you could also access?
