Hi

Has anyone tried one of Dotster's Windows plans as I can't find any reviews using the search? Their plans seems to offer a lot for a low price.

Thanks

Never tried but they seems to be reputable hosts.

There should be less hesitation to try hosts providing 30 days money back guarantee.

Hello,

They are more popular like Domain Name register, but IMHO they are not bad solution for small business hosting. I agree that money back guarantee is a very important option when you are looking for a new hosting company.

I decided to open an account with them on May 23.

Dotster uses a control panel called Parallels Automation, first time I have used this panel and it is not very pleasant to use. For example I wanted to move several domains, on some domains I have several e-mail accounts. Usually a control panel will list your e-mails by domain but Dotster’s control panel will list your all you e-mails from all your domains alphabetically, not by domain! Also the control panel provides too much unnecessary detail. The control seems like it was designed by the programmer for progammers. I have used H-Sphere, Pleak, and DotNetPanel and they provide a much more pleasant experience.

On the left of the control panel is a live support link that doesn’t work, I always get "Your session has expired..." message when I click it. I’ve been trying for about 4 days now just to test it. The control panel also has a tab link to support, clicking that I get redirected to an announcement page. Seems like they don't want me to contact support.

On May 24 while adding a domain the control panel stopped responding during the creation of a domain. I restarted my browser and attempted to logon to my control panel. I couldn’t. This lasted for more than 10 hours so I opened a support ticket before going to sleep. I received a standard automated response: "Your question has been received. You should expect a response from us within 24 hours…"

On May 25 I could access the control panel again.

On May 26 I decided to cancel my account.

On May 27 I received a reply from my original support ticket after 3 days! They should change their automated response to "Your question has been received. You should expect a response from us within 72 hours…"

I have decided to stick with my current host even though they are more expensive :)

DotNetPanel also list emails from all domains alphabetically.
The architecture in this case is per service not per domain.
IMO you made good decistion to cancel the hosting account.
That's too much trouble right at the beginning.

DotNetPanel also list emails from all domains alphabetically.

I think Plesk does so too, but H-Sphere lists per domain.

There are lots of hosters mentioned here in the Windows section of WHT that are actually quite good. Just takes reading some posts and scrolling down a page or two...

SoftSys is active here and has a great reputation as well as DiscountASP.NET. I use Arvixe.com and I always get a tech support answer within 10 to 30 minutes. And that answer is always "your problem is fixed"

I just can't imagine using any hoster where support response is measured in days!
