View Full Version : Disabling the "view source" option?

Is there ANY way to disable the "View Source" options in the internet browsers?
I know how to disable the right-click option but that is not what I want, the idea is to make it impossible (or at least make it as hard as possible) for a user to view your source codes ...

Hi

It will never be possible to hide the client-side source code because the browser must download this to read it. Any user with a tad bit of experience will always be able to get your source code, even if you disable certain browser options (which, to answer your question, I don't think is possible).

Many people learn from looking at other websites source code, so I see it as a good thing personally - as long as nobody gets their hands on my server side code :D

You can use a software encryption tool that completely garbles your source when viewed if that helps.

I would think that it shouldn't be too hard or trying to get everything coded. The program that did this I believe was a drag and drop application.

even if you were to magically stop view source...thats not stopping sum1 going to file and save hehe.

best thing to do is use a paid encryption tool if ur code is that high in value. but even then that doesnt really stop sum1 from copying things like graphics etc.

Good way to slow down a web page. Blowfish or AES in javascript. In any case, unless the site is going to be somehow able to do PKI, then the presumption, especially given that one of the proposed algos is blowfish, is that symmetric encryption is being used. Well, that means the key has to be made available. This totally defeats the encryption.

Anyways, anyone going to the a website that is totally rendered in javascript without javascript enabled is going to just hit the back button while mumbling what a moron the designer is. Same goes for the godforsaken practice of implementing meta-refresh or javascript refreshes on home pages without a visible clickable link. Again, mumblings of what muppets the designers are while hitting the back button.

As long as it's html, css and javascript (text-based languages) there's zero possibility of using any real encryption techniques. The only thing you'll do with these stupid javascript obfuscators is convince yourself that your source is hidden (and destroy your search engine rankings).

Give it up. Instead concentrate on producing markup someone might actually want to steal. :stickout:

As long as it's html, css and javascript (text-based languages) there's zero possibility of using any real encryption techniques. The only thing you'll do with these stupid javascript obfuscators is convince yourself that your source is hidden (and destroy your search engine rankings).

Give it up. Instead concentrate on producing markup someone might actually want to steal. :stickout:

Depends on your goals. If for example you're trying to sell a site (and keep someone from just spidering it to get all the code/graphics) just put up a screenshot to show what it looks like. But if it's an actual working site, you're out of luck - anything that gets sent to the user's browser can be stolen.

Stealing is stealing whether it is something physical or knowledge or ideas , even if you're not going to get caught, and even if 'everyone else is doing it', yes it is WRONG and it is always bothering me seeing peoples stealing other peoples work (under any circumstances, no excuses accepted).

I am asking this because I have been in this situation and it DOES hurt me, do you want to feel how it feels, go ahead and spend days and nights to accomplish something, that includes not just your time but also your stress, hard brain works, paid tools, and difficult times to solve problems, and once you're done and it is online you may find somebody else in just seconds stealing all your hard works and with or without some modifications he is going to get the full credit out of your work including making money!!! how does this feel to you .....

Life's a bitch dude but I understand where you're coming from. Nevertheless, if someone really wants your code, he'll/she'll or even they'll get it using some method. So not only do you stay up many nights using your brain hard to develop a site, you'll then spend so many extra hours fretting how to hide the source code, for someone who likes it to come along and steal it anyway.

Best thing to do is a sh*t site so no one will want to steal it, but even then there'll be some nerd who likes it.

Make something that someone might actually want to steal, and then your question may be valid. However, truth be told, its HTML/Graphics. There is no sound proof way to "encrypt" it. Even the paid "encryption" suites for server side languages (Zend?!?) have been decrypted before.

You're never "totally" safe, and you learn to deal with it. If someone steals your stuff, a DMCA will usually aid in the removal of it.

Aquarius Storage has had its design stolen about 6 times this year thus far. Each time, we have reacted quickly and all 6 thus far have been taken down or removed. It's great your trying to be pro-active, but in this case, all you can be is reactive.

if your write it in php and encrypt it... cant be stolen for the most part. i started programming my sites in php to stop ripping

I can think of three ways right off the top of my head that a PHP programmed website can be stolen.

1. Someone gains access to your FTP and downloads your content
2. Your web hosting is a kiddie host and leaks your data to the internet
3. I've seen it when rebuilding Apache with a certain config, that PHP files become viewable as text, and are displayed, properly formated to the browser (although not phrased!)

Now a roadblock you can throw their way is if it is encrypted with say ioncube or zend. However, if they want it bad enough, they will then get it decrypted. I know zend has been able to be decrypted for a while now.

ioncube is good. theres another one that has never been decrytped.... although if someone has the ability to gain access to your ftp you shouldnt be worried about blocking view source but securing the server and using lenghy passwords with brute force protection

In terms of PHP, both ionCube and Zend are vulnerable to being returned to source. And it won't stop the HTML being stolen either.

The simple way to look at it - Microsoft, Adobe etc.. and their billions can't stop piracy. So what chance do we have? :)

Anything we do to protect our property will only put people off.

It seems encoding the source is the best that we can do in which at least it takes sometimes and efforts for someone who wants to steal it ...
