What are the proxies used for mainly?

I'm guessing public/private web proxies that use php proxy scripts. Most hosts can support these to a certain extent until the sites become too large for a shared environment.

How much disk space/bandwidth would you need? Bandwidth will probably be the more important factor since a lot more bandwidth is used by web proxies than disk space itself.

to start off, no more then 200gb bandwidth. But there are a lot of companies that don't allow it.

I wanted to use inno hosting but they said they dont allow it

So i am seeing if companies do allow it

Pushing 200gb bandwidth through a proxy site will require a dedicated server.
You can get a vps if you want to save money.
It's difficult to find shared hosting service allowing proxy site with that much traffic.
Sooner or later your site will be suspended.

I assume that if you make the request on the digitalpoint forums you will have a lot of options to consider. It seems to be the best place for that and the forums are specialized for that

Cheers

you should look for a company that sells proxies and ask them if they allow you to resell it, that's the best bet atm. but as others said you may need a dedicated server because even a small proxy can use up a lot of resources.

DP isn't what it used to be anymore, lots of scammers and fly by night hosts that break a lot of rules and most of the mods just oversee those.

Hah, I'd stay away from DP. My partner roams around there for promotional purposes since a lot of people still use DP to look for web hosting. I wish they would come to WHT instead so they could avoid getting scammed by fly by night hosts.

I agree, there are too many Fly-By-Night hosts on DP, If you look in their november(08) archives several of the companies that have posted ads desolved a month later.

The best thing to do for a Proxy host is to contact hosts directly. Several Proxy Scripts can cause a high CPU Load on the server as well as consume bandwidth. Most hosts will allow a small personal proxy, most wont allow reselling proxys. But with a PHP Proxy, I see how it can be done correctly.
