View Full Version : Ucg
ikiwi.net 11-04-2002, 03:21 AM They tell me that they have over 700 servers,
UCG has several hundred servers so it........... How many you rekon they would have?
We have 10 there mostly resold or managed
FHDave 11-04-2002, 03:32 AM hm ... how can somebody complaint over UCG? At that price, UCG does not guarantee a smile on your face, don't you know that? ;)
Come on ... for $49-$99/month server, it's just spare money. If you are seriouos about your business, you won't go there for sure :)
And yes, I do think they have several hundred servers ....
The review seems a bit incomplete if you do not provide details. Also, where is this quote from?

Not dedicated servers - they do mostly Colo. It was only a month ago that they began promoting dedicateds. There is no way they have 700 dedicateds.
mushrew 11-04-2002, 03:40 AM I have a couple of their 199/mo Corporate servers and have absolutely no complaints. Only problem was once they reset my root password for no reason a few hours after I received my server and changed the pw. Didn't give any explanation, just told me they reset it.

Darth 11-04-2002, 10:23 AM Enable it then :D
Speckz 11-04-2002, 12:51 PM I had the worst experience with UCG! EVER! And I have been doing dedicated server hosting for over 4 years now in which I have dealt with 30+ companies.
DanielP 11-04-2002, 12:56 PM Let me guess... this is the first time you've paid 49 dollars for a server right?
A certain level of expectation comes with each level and cost of a server, its ironic to see so many complain about what they know is an inexpensive product. I've got a server with ucg as well, I don't monitor it and I don't complain when it goes down, because its what it is, a cheap play server.

mushrew 11-04-2002, 02:47 PM The only download service enabled on my servers is FTP (servers run game servers). If you're still interested in a test, ICQ me at 20503340.

It doesnt matter. You shouldnt sell something that you cant maintain. If I bought one and it went down you would bet I would be pissed.

Hostingsp if you're concerned about speeds feel free to check out my MRTG graph above. You can see that I was able to sustain a 6mbit FXP over to a RackShack server.
DanielP 11-04-2002, 04:47 PM Abaddon, that comment can so easily be turned around.
You shouldn't buy something that you know can't be maintained forever. If you do at least don't use it for business.
That ones a two way street :)
Speckz 11-04-2002, 05:07 PM Actually $99 a month, and if you compare them to say rackshack.net then UCG is really bad.

DanielP 11-04-2002, 05:09 PM Rackshack also has poured countless millions from ev1 into their product.. even then their support is lacking at best, it took them what 3 or 4,000 servers just to break even on their biz plan? Still probabbly doesn't make them much at all.
Barak 11-04-2002, 05:32 PM My experience of United.Colo has been pretty good so far. Something went wrong with my server today and to top that off someone was trying to steal my main IP. UCG support found the culprit and stopped his/her server and rebooted mine for me within 15 minutes of my first email, with 4/5 emails in-between to let me know what was going on.
Pretty good service for the price IMO. I know others will have bad experiences, but I thought it would be nice for people to hear about a good one for once :)
mushrew 11-05-2002, 03:48 AM My responses via e-mail from UCG are usually less than30 minutes even in the middle of the night...while I have trouble tickets from RackShack that've been open for over a week.
Speckz 11-05-2002, 08:06 AM While I do hate them, I will give them this. Support responds to emails in a relatively fast amount of time. Too bad they don’t ever send me notices though like when they were DOSed, switched from 100Mbit to 10Mbit, etc. though.
hostingsp 11-05-2002, 10:00 AM 100Mbit to 10Mbit, etc
Really just add up if RS has the right bandwight....
You think like if they have 10.000 servers and sells 400Gb each... Don't you think that there backbone it's small ?
I think... it is...normal
There cogent box are and was it lot's off problems...
RS does make mistakes too..don't count the mistakes as points count less mistakes better :)
PS : RS need to update there server packages not just there prices ... :bawling:
Angel78 11-05-2002, 11:41 AM you havent seen the HP deals @ RS ? (99 setup and 129 monthly)(update their servers..etc) ?
check their network section for their bandwidht providers.

Hey hostingsp - I'm really getting tired of you posting comments about other companies having had no previous knowledge, or experience with that company. I'm not stickingup for RS, I've had a bad experience with them (but at least I can say I have, you can't). Stop pushing UC on everybody whenever they find a problem with a host. It doesn't look very good when you do that, in fact people may begin to wonder if you actually work for the company. You cannot post about a company without having previous experience with them - I already pointed this out to you in the rules. Guess you never read them....I hope this post warns everyone that nothing he says (aside from him evangelizing about UC) has any value to it.
hostingsp 11-05-2002, 01:03 PM How said i don't have expirence ?... I have been talking to there support to get a date when the $49 will be avalible after 10 days i will se if i like there ISP and other a higher server our not....
I live in Brasil how can i work there ? don't talk crazy man...
PS : I just think RS cold put a plus * ;) on there plans :) i'm very cheap :( i like ervy thing @ there best
Hostkookster 11-05-2002, 01:09 PM Hostingsp thats fine you don't like RS's setup - I can live with that. But on your same post you were critisizing RS's network?? Why?? You have never been on their network, you have never gotten a box from RS thus you should not be critisizing them.
zdwebhosting 11-05-2002, 07:20 PM lol hostingisp wants a 49 dollar box from rs is that what i am seeing? hey i doubt they are going to do that when they sell them @ 100 like hotcakes so you might try ucg other than that noper ;)
hostingsp 11-05-2002, 09:48 PM you were critisizing RS's network??
I hear in another post that if RS was plainning to deliver all bandwight that ervy has sign-up for tell wold need 1-2 Gig's more..
lol hostingisp wants a 49 dollar box from rs is that what i am seeing?
You almost cracked :P I want a higher bandwight, lower $ per GB (now it's $1.50) and up to date soft. on the server :)
It's that too much ?
richy 11-05-2002, 09:58 PM they are of course looking at more gig's, their current network isnt at peak useage so they dont actually need more this second. their software is up to date enough and their bandwidth is better then ucg's mix, although the addition of internap improves this. on rs's overages are 1.50 a gb. its more like 25-30 cents a gb on the first 400 which is cheaper then ucgs 49 cents a gb on their 49 dollar plan.
hostingsp 11-05-2002, 10:01 PM The oversale off bandwight in ucg it's from $ 0.80 to $ 0.50 per Gb...Depends on which plan you chose...And ucg has a 1.000 and 3.000 Gbs plan.
RS cold sell a 1.000gb plan :)
PS : RS uses mixbackbone also...
PS : UCG has already a GigE link and has very less servers than RS, they are getting very good..And it seens i'm goin to get the 1.000 Gb plan in a few days.
Just got to resolve some biz isues here in Brasil before that...
