After trying out your billing system to find out the maximum bandwidth that can be achieved is only 4500GB after everything is upgraded(except control panel). Are there anyway to purchase more bandwidth?

According to your billing system, all upgrades(monthly, not setup fees) except control panel(wierd huh?) are eligble for more bandwidth. The prices seems to be the following:

+500GB: $20 Upgrade
+1000GB: $70 Upgrade
+1500GB: $120 Upgrade
+2000GB: $170 Upgrade
+2500GB: $220 Upgrade

This way of increasing bandwidth is pretty cool too, as we are basically upgrading our hardware too. However, it will be nice if we can also upgrade bandwidth by itself.

Do you bill bandwidth in 50in+50out or any direction in+out? Is the RAM ECC? Do you use server grade hardwares?

LaptopFreak:

I've had options added to increase bandwidth by itself in the order form now.

The reason control panels do not increase the bandwidth quota is because that is a passed on cost. Unlike hardware, we pay for it on a monthly basis, so it never really generates any income we can use to pay for bandwidth.

Bandwidth is measured in+out, so any direction is fine. The RAM is ECC only in the Xeon based servers. Everything else is standard DDR2 or DDR3.

As for "server grade hardware", you'll have to define that. I've posted on many of the Desktop vs. Server threads on here. We are of the school that thinks that performance, customer satisfaction and value come first. I do not believe in building cheap computers either, but whether it's rack mounted or not, makes no difference to us; we have both. All of our Core2 and Core i7 are not rack mounted though if you were curious.

JoseQIf control panel is a cost you absorb, what about OS? Windows OS still get the benefit of higher bandwidth increase..

Why not show Xeon offerings on your website too? What I mean by "server grade hardware" are hardwares like ECC RAM, motherboards. I'm not picky about CPU, since Xeon & normal desktop ones are the same, except Xeon seems to use less power, but that's none of my concern.

And one more thing. Are the drives hot swappable?

We don't typically stock Xeon servers. We special order them for clients who want them. Every now and then we will order a few and post them in the order form, but we haven't had much demand for them, so we typically stay away from putting them in inventory.

The drives in our Core2 and Core i7 line are not hot-swappable.

As for ECC RAM, I already answered, only our Xeon servers use it. I'm not sure what a server grade motherboard is.

If you have questions about the reliability or performance of our hardware, feel free to ask on the Dedicated Server forum. I'm sure our customers can paint a good picture of how well it works.

For all of those considering TMS,

I've been a customer since March of 2007 and the hardware has been nothing but rock solid. All of my servers have been Dell and it's my understanding that TMS only deploys Dell hardware, so you know you're getting server quality parts.

If you do a search on TMS or Tailor Made Servers you will likely find my full review of their service, however if you can't please send me a message and I'll give you the URL. I can't recommend TMS enough, the hardware, the network, the staff, the free beer... ok, maybe not the free beer, but you get the point! :)

JoseQI'm reading the reviews currently.

By the way, can we pool bandwidth? You mentioned there are bulk discounts available on the original post in this thread, how many servers will be entitled for a lower pricing?

We allow partial pooling of the bandwidth for customers with 10+ servers. This means individual servers will not pay for overage as long as the overall usage of all servers is under 50%. Most servers use very little so this allows for certain servers to use a lost more bandwidth than the standard allocation.

For quantity discounts we would require at least three servers to be purchased at the same time.

We can discuss this privately over instant messenger or e-mail (info below)... if e-mailing, let me know which configs you are considering and quantity.

Incredible! I ordered another server at 17:30 EST and went out for a quick drink, came back and in my inbox with a timestamp of 18:31 EST were the server details! Talk about awesome service. =)
