View Full Version : Checking for Stolen Design ?
Hey There.
I wanted to know if anyone out there knew of a quick and easy way to see if your website's design was actually stolen/copied
I don't really need a content checker, but in terms of actual design.
Website: www.resellerscene.com
If anyone has seen a similar - looking design, please can you take the time out and report it to me. Paid a good amount for the design, would hate to find out someone ripped it :D
Outlaw Web Master 05-17-2009, 05:18 AM try using copyscape.com or tineye.com
owm
HivelocityDD 05-17-2009, 06:28 AM Yes tineye.com is good
thanks for tineye...that would be hekpful indeed. although some of my images didnt get recognized
semoweb 05-20-2009, 03:51 AM You can consider copyscape but a suggestion is there will always be someone who will rip site's nothing you can really do about it. It happend's daily. It's something we just have to live with. Of course it suck's to know someone did or to even worry about it. Worrying about it will make your life miserable. Let's say even if you found someone who ripped your site. What can you do? Report it to their host? etc...? It's really alot of trouble. And what happends if they switch to offshore hosting what can you do then? Im really not to sure how that process works but try not to worry about it.

Yep, file the complaints against them everytime they move so they can't host with any legitimate quality host, and make their lives that little bit more annoying and hope they eventually give up.
I suppose imitation is a form of flattery, but it can definitely suck to be on the end of it when you've spent a lot of money.

my thoughts exactly. I guess in a form, I should be flattered, but still the big $$$ paid for the design, I feel like I should be able to keep everything :D
Flumps 05-20-2009, 05:24 PM like the design...can I just say from the outtake...stopping sum1 right clicking on your website wont stop them from copying content or whatever they like.
if anything it adds to the challange and excitment of getting around it lol.
i like to right click, not to copy peoples designs but to see the code. but now your forcing me to view source from the menu that just makes me want to steal your design.
/ speaking from a rippers point of view I wouldnt and have no need to do it.
really nice design though. think you got value for your money with this I like it. good luck with the business.

Thanks. A lot of time and preperation went into the making of this website. I disabled right-click in hopes that it might deter the non-techncial savvy people from ripping off some code/content but anyone that does know how to get around it could do rip anything. Just a minor precaution thats all :)
Thanks for the compliments on the site

It's a very great looking site :) I can see why a dishonest person would take it.
Check your PM for some additional help..
A bit unrelated to your post, but I really like your design, but just a couple of constructive criticisms if your interested:
- Preload your rollover graphics with a bit of javascript to avoid the lag on first time rollovers
- I like your big green call to action button in the header, but a rollover would look quite slick on it.
- The three columns below your header on the left hand side are a bit out of alignment with the rest of your site, so maybe fix up the margin/padding on there.
- A little bit of breathing space so your footer text isn't stuffed to the bottom of the browser would be nice
Apart from that the site looks great, hope noone has ripped it off!

Preventing right click is a very unprofessional thing to do, here is a great article about it. But to sum the article up, its annoying as people use right click a lot more than they think they do, it is pointless if someone wants to steal your design its not very hard, its disabling especially with the advent of mouse gestures, its unprofessional to see a site reminding you every time you right click that their content is copyright protected and its insulting to know that a company doesn't trust its users in such a way.

In addition many designers learn how to code by inspecting how websites have coded certain aspects to their site, this is especially true with CSS and XHTML when you want to figure out just how a website did "X" effect, etc..
