View Full Version : Where will it be next year?
Spunkyasp 05-14-2009, 09:49 PM I really like the idea of HostingCon in Washington D.C. because it is very easy for me to get their (only a 10 hour drive). However, I may not be able to make it in this year. Does anyone have any idea where it will be hosted in 2010?
TailoredVPS 05-14-2009, 10:58 PM I am hoping that it will be on the western side of the country. Then I could drive there :D

I second that!
garysimat 05-15-2009, 11:12 AM I vote for Vegas or LA.
rfarrell 05-15-2009, 11:27 AM I pushed for the Galapagos Islands, but apparently cost was an issue, in addition to the angry tortoises :stickout:
mdrussell 05-15-2009, 12:22 PM +1 for Vegas

Not if you capture the tortoises and use them as free transportation... :agree:
The Prohacker 05-15-2009, 02:12 PM Not if you capture the tortoises and use them as free transportation... :agree:
You know tortoises are known for being slow but steady, I wonder about their use instead of hamsters..... Hmmm :D
darkeden 05-15-2009, 04:07 PM You know tortoises are known for being slow but steady, I wonder about their use instead of hamsters..... Hmmm :D
lol....
I hope they come to new england. always far away and If I want to go the plane ticket cost twice as much as the fee to get in
AstroNyu 05-15-2009, 04:41 PM Go International! If it was in my country, I would drive all the way to go there.
Robert vd Boorn 05-15-2009, 08:32 PM Let the event take place on Sealand.
I don't see how someone could say Washington or LA. You don't put stuff like this at the edge of a country, but in the damn center.
Orien 05-17-2009, 03:44 AM Vegas would be nice.
Shayan 05-18-2009, 12:11 AM Either Las Vegas or Los Angeles could be cool.
JohnJ 05-18-2009, 08:01 PM My vote goes to Charlotte or Raleigh, NC. :P
ZacharyW 05-18-2009, 08:08 PM Somewhere in the Central US would make more sense to me instead of isolating it to the West or East coast.
Mr. Obvious 05-19-2009, 03:45 AM Gogo Nebraska vote :D
ServeByDesign 05-20-2009, 09:57 AM I would love Vegas.. But, my money is on California (San Fran) or Florida (Miami) for 2010.
IGXHost 05-20-2009, 11:27 AM Australia :)
Shikhir A 05-20-2009, 12:33 PM Australia :)
75-80% of people in HostingCON are from US/Canada. It's too hard for sponsors, people, etc. to carry their equipment like stalls to Australia. I think iNet won't put HostingCON outside North America.

Those with U.S. government clearances would be unable to attend without jumping through a lot of hoops.
how about Denver - it's close to the middle... ;)
DaWiseMouse 06-18-2009, 07:58 PM We took it to Vegas the second year of the show and it was Piss Poor at best, yes Vegas sounds like fun but it is expensive logistics wise, secondly most people who go to shows in vegas spend very little time at the show and most of the time trying to get in as much partying and gambling as they can so it was truly a poor show for all of our exhibitors and sponsors. This is why we went back to Chicago for 2 years straight and why iNet has chosen DC as its current location. the cities are much more family and show friendly.
bikster 06-18-2009, 11:17 PM How about Chicago or Houston?
mdrussell 06-19-2009, 05:15 AM But Frank, many people that go, particularly the mid-sized hosts that make the backbone of the show enjoy the chance to let their hair down....hence Vegas was so enjoyable.
Plus you can negotiate far easier with the surroundings Vegas has to offer :)
othellotech 06-19-2009, 08:20 PM Boston or NY next year please :)
Shikhir A 06-19-2009, 08:43 PM Boston or NY next year please :)
NY would be awesome..it's quite expensive for rooming and conventional centers though.
How about Vancouver? Host of the 2010 Olympics :)
UH-Bobby 06-20-2009, 03:11 PM My vote goes to Charlotte or Raleigh, NC. :P
I'd vote for that too :). I can be in Charlotte in an hour, unless I speed, lol. Not sure about Raleigh, but if it was there, I'd definitely be there.
IRCCo Jeff 06-21-2009, 10:57 AM Somewhere without union rules? Please?
Serious note though, iNet has made at least $10k+ from us (booth price and goodwill, referrals, etc. combined) by moving the convention to the east coast. We considered going to Chicago and pounced on the opportunity to go to DC but would be hesitant to go back to the west coast in future years and most certainly would not leave the country.
peruviantalk 06-22-2009, 09:58 AM NY / Florida for east coast. or UK for international :D
pclover 06-22-2009, 12:11 PM +1 Los Angeles
okihost 06-22-2009, 01:21 PM Vegas or Miami :)
Alex - Fibervolt 07-09-2009, 12:41 PM San Diego :P I live to far from Washington and have no money :P
othellotech 07-09-2009, 12:52 PM I live to far from Washington
There isn't anywhere too far from anywhere else ;)
and have no money
Thought about getting a job ? That's usually the simplest method ...

Lets just say I got laid off 2 times and right now I'm struggling to pay all my bills :P
Hopefully next one would be in LA cause it wouldnt be a big drive at all.
RyanD 07-16-2009, 04:24 PM +1 for Atlanta :)
garysimat 07-16-2009, 04:28 PM boooo for atlanta! vegas, southbeach (miami) or LA!!!
mdrussell 07-16-2009, 07:04 PM Agree with Gary. Vegas or Miami.
Ryan's barred from The Cheetah in ATL anyway.
srenkema 07-30-2009, 05:25 AM Vegas, Miami, NYC, or Honolulu
UH-Matt 07-30-2009, 12:04 PM Also agree Vegas or Miami.
So its the exhibitors and sponsors who didnt like Vegas..... I knew there was someone, as everyone I spoke to as attendee's loved Vegas :)
srenkema 07-31-2009, 03:43 AM Still like Honolulu a lot... nice tropical, some surfing to do .... :)
why did exhibitors / sponsors not like vegas?
....probably because people get distracted by the girls, booze, and tables... spreading out and not paying sufficient amount of attention to the stands/booths?
Isn't that resolvable by simply creating exciting promotions...??
By the way guys, we are giving out a weekend Amsterdam at booth #230... make sure to stop by :)
Rochen 07-31-2009, 08:37 AM Also agree Vegas or Miami.Another vote! :)
So its the exhibitors and sponsors who didnt like Vegas..... I knew there was someone, as everyone I spoke to as attendee's loved Vegas :)Totally agree. Can't remember speaking to one person who had a bad thing to say about Vegas. I have spoken to quite a few people who wont attend with it in Chicago or DC.
Personally, I attended Chicago and and am attending DC but would much prefer the venue to change to Vegas, Miami or somewhere similar.

sailor 07-31-2009, 09:29 AM miami beach please
its already been in vegas many times and there are other shows in vegas - but I never get to go to mb for shows any more.
the last one I got to go to was the ariba users conference in 2001 and they rented out level and had donna summer for a private party for us.
was really cool
hint hint hint
srenkema 07-31-2009, 09:39 AM The only thing with Miami is that Parallels organizes their summit there already in February... twice the same place in 1 year with so many options to choose from is somewhat limited creativity I'd say... :)
MarioR 08-07-2009, 05:24 PM HostingCon 2010 should come to Texas heres why:
1.) Texas is home to Dell and Compaq computers and central Texas is often referred to as the Silicon Valley of the south.
2.) Austin is considered the live music capital of the world.
3.) The capital city of Austin is located on the Colorado River in south-central Texas. The capitol building is made from Texas pink granite. It served as the capital of the Republic of Texas in 1840-1842.
4.) Texas comes from the Hasinai Indian word tejas meaning friends or allies.
5.) The first word spoken from the moon on July 20, 1969 was Houston a city in Texas.
6.) Jalapeno pepper jelly originated in Lake Jackson and was first marketed in 1978.
need I say more? ..... :D
hostechsupport 08-07-2009, 05:36 PM May be some where out of US.I think they should organise each time in a different country.
Frank_CCI 08-09-2009, 05:28 PM I think it is set for Austin, Texas in 2010.

wow even less interesting then DC.

If they needed to put it in Texas, why couldn't they have chosen Dallas or Houston. Why Austin?
UH-Matt 08-09-2009, 11:06 PM Wow... Austin... have been every year since it started, will have to miss that year!
MattS 08-10-2009, 01:22 AM Vegas or Miami and I would strive to get down there as Allegiant Air is like $59 one way to Florida. Vegas is pretty cheap too. Then again, why not go where you're HQ'ed iNet so I can drive there.
Orien 08-10-2009, 03:06 AM I'll be there whenever (if) HostingCon comes back to Vegas.
I think that iNet should try and target the overseas market with one in the UK or Europe, because I know for a fact that next year, I won't be making the 18 hr flight to somewhere like WDC.

But if it's overseas or in Europe, I'd imagine more of the US people wouldn't be willing to travel. They're probably looking at the geographic locations HostingCon attendees come from, and then choosing locations that would be centrally located to the large majority of attendees. Based on the locations so far, I'd guess that a lot of the attendees are American. DC is a good compromise because it's closer for a lot of the European people and not too far for most Americans (except those on the west coast).
No matter where the conference is held, there are always going to be some people happy with the location and some not so happy. You can't please everybody. ;)

Well, there's a huge chunk in the market that they are missing though. Why not have two events running? On in the states and one in the UK. The only reason most attendees are in the states is because it IS in the states and travel from UK/Europe >> States is NOT cheap by any means the flights are long which is why there's a limited number from that location.
I just think that if there was one in say Europe/UK, they'd get a LOT more then they think attending, for the reasons stated above.

LOL. And 90% of the Americans that come won't travel to Europe.
We have Web Hosting Day which is a great conference for Europe. This year was well attended and I'm sure next year will be even better.
Vegas or Miami.... thats where it needs to be.
Shikhir A 08-10-2009, 12:16 PM While I agree with you mostly - there are some issues. Firstly, they'd have to get a lot more investment for a second location. Not only the location, but that many iNet staff would need to go to the location. If they don't, that's like going to a party with no host showing. And most of iNet's staff are US, so that's an issue for them.
Weren't you planning a UK Hostingcon type thing? If you get it together you'll probably be able to strike a deal with iNet. That should make good sponsors come because they'd (sponsors) think it's more official-hostingcon UK.

Yeah, I'm looking to get something going UK-based, but I just can't find the initial cash I'll need to get something going. Selling all my eartly goods (Such as old servers lol), trying to get the cash together to get it going :)
RyanD 08-10-2009, 12:27 PM It was confirmed in our flyer/book for HC that it will be in Austin, TX next year July 19-21

I'd send an email to Parallels, Softlayer, etc. to get them
to invest. Those are the platinum Hostingcon sponsors.

But SoftLayer is 100% USA based :)
I asked over at UK2, but no hope there. I think that trying to get The Planet onboard would be good, because they have their new UK operations :)
