Here at jewish.net we are looking to offer Jewish community groups free web space and so we are looking for a developer who we can work with on the following and make it work well - we are looking for something that matches what you get from geocties/tripod/homestead.
We have looked at a number of services including: WebUMake at
http://www.webumake.com/wweb/
and http://dvhs.com.md/ and also
http://www.cyberscript.net/products/easyhost/
and home free professional which seems to be one of the best
http://solutionscripts.com/vault/homefree_pro/
what we want is to give people the ability to either have a WYSIWYG interface to create their site (which is what Home Free Pro/WebUMake offers) or if they feel comfortable to have a regular FTP account and upload files themselves. the user should decide what they want with the account and also there should be the abiity that if someone wishes to move from a WYSIWYG interface account and just be able to ftp up themselves, then they can change that but keep the same user name/password.
We have dedicated server at Rackshack for this which is a P3 running ENSIM.
So are there any folks out there who have had experience of creating and developing free web space communities or working with the above packages?
It is important that the developer we work with has had experience and we expect them to be able to supply some reference URLs of free web space services they have created.
So please only respond if you meet the above needs and you have the experience along with details of what your charge would be.
E-mail me directly.
thanks!
Leslie
